Rapist and murderer convicted to life in prison

Thirty-seven year old Sandra Ruiz met a horrific death two years ago; today, twenty-four year old Darrel Grant, the man that committed the cold blooded murder, was sentenced to life in prison. Justice Adolph Lucas, in handing down the sentence, underlined the level of cruelty in the crime and highlighted the vivid testimony of Dr. Mario Estradabran, who outlined the numerous injuries that Ruiz suffered. There were no character witnesses to speak on Grant’s behalf and all his attorney had to say was that his client will appeal the conviction and sentence. The vicious attack on Ruiz dates back to August tenth, 2008 when her home was invaded and she was raped and bashed on the head with a hammer numerous times. Ruiz suffered a fractured skull, jaw, chest and ribs among other injuries and as she lay dead inside the house, her attacker stole her jewelry and escaped. Grant was caught the following day wearing a gold chain that was stolen from Ruiz but claimed he had gotten it from a friend. But the evidence against him told a different story and after a fifteen day trial, he was found guilty of Murder.
Good work for the Crown attorney and DPP and police. And an honest jury. A victory for the country.

Was Dickie expecting the death penalty? That’s the only reason I can imagine he immediately mentioned an appeal. I agree with you man, challenge the court’s decision & argue for the death penalty, your boy deserves it . Life in prison is too good for him & unfair to the tax payers.
In 5 yrs or less he will back on the street to commit the same crime over again. That is how much I trust our justice system.
Why waste taxpayers’ money to feed and shelter this man for life in prison? Just bring out the noose and do society a favour! He is a scum and the cruel way he murdered a woman,a maother, a wife, a friend… he should be made to suffer as well!

this coward deserve this.still not please he does not deserve to live on the expense of the belizean tax payers dollars we need to see more outcome like this or the death penalty.i wished they deny allllll appeal.
I want to know how the criminals get money to pay lawyers to help them appeal a case. Could someone help me on this one please or which greedy @$$ lawyer wants to help them when they know they are not innocent.
When will we get a politician who is willing to put the death penalty back on the table so that we can get rid of murderers like this? It’s a damn shame that tax payers have to foot the bill to keep scum like this alive. We don’t need anything fancy like the electric chair, just a few sizeable rocks and people who are sick of these predators running the streets.
Scumbag! Rot in hell you didn’t just kill this beautiful young woman but you affected everyone in her life (her immediate family, relatives and friends) and the psyche of the nation.
Just remember life is a big circle, and do good things and good things follow you. Do evil and it will follow always even if you think initially you’ve gotten away with it. I just hope life means life with no possibility of appealing in this case.
Send him to a PRISON FARM…………
HE can learn to feed himself……………and REPAY HIS DEBT TO SOCIETY.

Look for the appeal I know that he will get a retrial and walk as the other turn Crown evidence.
BUILD THE PRISON FARM IN TOLEDO………….
Drive him into Honduras and then let him loose. Cops down there know how to take care of murderers.
