Street man, Michael Morgan, gunned down

While the police were on high alert, keeping an eye on the cocaine, gun violence erupted on the streets of the old capital on Garifuna Settlement Day. Police operations included searches of the city’s hot spots including the George Street area, but could not avert the murder of two persons. The homicides happened within fifteen minutes of each other and in the same vicinity and appear to be unrelated. It is early to tell but the motives are unclear and several persons are being questioned. News Five’s Delahnie Bain reports.

Dean Street is still stained with the blood of Friday afternoon’s first murder victim, Michael Morgan.  He was gunned down at ten minutes to one o’clock rummaged through garbage that piled up beside the former Payless Shoe Store.

Sgt. Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer

“Police responded to a report on Dean Street somewhere in the vicinity a little off Albert Street where they found Michael Morgan suffering from three apparent gunshot wounds. Initial investigations reveal that Morgan was out there going through some garbage because from our understanding Michael Morgan is always on the streets—he is considered to be homeless—and a gunman rode up and fired several shots at him, hitting him three times to the body; one behind the ear and one on the right upper of his body. He was pronounced dead at the Karl Heusner while undergoing treatment.”

While he appeared homeless to those who saw him on the Streets, Morgan’s brother Daniel says he had a home and kept close to his family.

Daniel Morgan

Meanwhile, police investigations are moving ahead slowly.

“Motive not established. We are questioning several people relating to this incident. But this murder happened in broad daylight. We’re asking if anybody have any information that they believe would assist us in the investigation to please come forward.”

The situation in Belize may seems grim, but the same thing is happening in countries all over the world. Some of these other countries have it worst than Belize as far a murders per year is concearn. Take a look at what’s going on in the U.S, Mexico, Iraq, Afghanistan, Dafur, Sudan, etc., etc. Compare Belize to these countries and we pale in comparison. The elected officials are not doing what they should be doing. There’s a lot more that they should be doing, but it seems that they are asleep at the wheel. Create jobs that pays people a livably wage. When there is no jobs an people are unemployed, some tend to get what they want or need by using other means. Rest in peace “Street Man Michael Morgan.” Another victim of the system…..
