Erotic Mass Band prepares for Carnival 2008
Hey! I’m Saffiyah and this is your weekly edition of what’s happening Belize.
Last week I got so excited telling you about the huge Benque festival that the crew and I just had to make a trip up there ourselves. There was definitely a little something for everyone; a wide variety of food, cold drinks, rides, games, and entertainment. And you know I can’t leave out the selection of Seniorita Flor de la Feria, better yet I’ll let u check it out yourself.

“What do you think you’re gonna do for the rest of the year while you have this title?”

“Be a good role model to all Benquenias here because now that I have this prestigious title I have to keep Benque’s name on high.”
I don’t know about you but I am super excited for the upcoming September celebrations; lots of events, getting together with friends and family and just an all around love for our country. One main attractions for September is the carnival road march, and the erotic mass band is already getting ready for the big day. I visited with them and found out all about the inspiration for their costumes this year.

“This year erotic, after taking a year’s break, we’re doing journey where we have the land, people and sea of Belize. So we have the land which is the rain forest and all the jungle and we have the people which we have specifically taken out the slaves which had come to Belize through the British settlement and then we’re doing under the sea which we are well known throughout the world for.”
The erotic mass band also wanted to invite all the adults out to their massive Belizean fete on the second of august. The fete is a fundraiser to assist them with their carnival expenses.

“This year we’ll be having the first ever Belizean fete which we will be having at the Roger’s Stadium. This fete is geared towards being one of the original fetes like they have in all countries throughout the Caribbean. We will be having a fun filled night where we’ll be having things like jello shots, we’ll be having giveaways, we’ll be having promotional items on sale. We’re featuring Kenny Gladden and the New Creation Band.”

“This year I’m going to be doing dancing in the street so its gonna be spectacular for all the people out there. Anybody can join and have fun.”
So go out and support the erotic mass band, who are just trying to make carnival bigger and better for all of us this year.
Now, I’ve got to tell you all about the annual Lord Rhaburn BZ jazz festival taking place this Friday at the bliss center for the performing arts at nine p.m.

“We should have a really nice show with some really wonderful artists. some of the usual suspects are here like Ronnie Clarke and there’s a new guy named Luciano Rosado who’s a great trumpeter and he’s an addition to the big band. The type of music—well it’s a jazz concert so we’re gonna be … you’re gonna hear things with a jazz flavour. Of course, it won’t be like straight ahead raw jazz, it will be some well known songs in the jazz flavour in it. This time we’re gonna do a little more blues and get maybe some more audience participation in lyrics and all of that. So we should have a good time.”
