470 cops sit in classrooms for promotional exams
There was a flood of uniformed officers at Gwen Lizarraga High School compound this past Saturday. But the cops weren’t chasing violence; the school was one of several locations countrywide where the Police Department was conducting promotional exams. The officers, a total of four hundred and seventy of them, sat examinations for a full eight hour day. The exercise was a part of the department’s efforts to fill vacancies for corporals, sergeants and inspectors. In the daily blotter, the department also announced today that an Open Day will be held in each District on Tuesday as part of the sixteen days of activism against gender-based violence. In Belize City, the event will be at the Queen Street Police Station.
a hope da good leaders we wa get instead of more plain landers……
i hope the are taught some lessons in public relations because a little tittle goes to some of their head!!!! Especially coporal requena of p.g police…… he has attitude and he needs to learn that it is us the tax payers who pay his salary to serve us!!!!
I just hope that the promotions are just…hope the hard working officers are recognized thru this exam.
An exam alone does not identify a good Police Officer, it takes good merit during their years of service and their dedication to producing quality police work to make a good police officer. Good merit by avoiding disciplinary charges while working in the department. Dedication, is quality hours done on duty. Quality hours should reflect officers bringing forth charges on criminals, drug lords, and gang leaders. Officers should be awarded for good detective and investigative work.
Over the years many officers have been promoted because of political reasons or affiliations to senior officers. I hope that the next promotion is given to deserving police officers who are honest, hardworking individuals who value self-respect and good work ethics.
Honorable people are hard to come by these days; however, I end my comment with a quote from Indira Gandhi: “My grandfather once told me that there are two kinds of people: those who work and those who take the credit. He told me to try to be in the first group; there was less competition there.”
If they did this sort of testing requirements before promoting an officer a long time ago guys like Chester Williams would have not made it into the top brass and the force would have been much better. He is not even smart enough (or maybe he was) to know that he should not accept an Cadillac Escalade as a gift because who ever gave it to you wants your soul and dignity in return. Very good move! All the thugs and dunsy ones are screwed now and will no longer get promoted!
What they need to do now is to make it so that all the officers who are in positions of influence need to submit a financial statement showing their selfworth every year. This would show who is on the take. They should also pay them weel to make it so that they can live off their salary.
I hope that they the results are fair and square and those that pass the exams are promoted and I also want the Commissioner Of Police to show them their test paper so that they can see for themselves if they pass or fail……..
IT’S GOOD TO SEE STANDARDS BEING SET.
I’M CURIOUS ABOUT THEIR FIRE-ARMS TRAINING TOO……
