YWCA gets needed renovation funding

Story PictureThe YWCA has kept a busy pace with its wide range of activities including the ongoing summer camps for the youth. Notwithstanding, it has embarked on the ambitious task of repairing and upgrading its facilities to better serve the hundreds of young women that turn to them for guidance and development opportunities. Initially, the N.G.O. received funding from international donors, including the Japanese government that contributed a hundred and seventy-one thousand dollars to the ongoing project and today the Atlantic Group of Companies which includes Atlantic Bank Limited, Atlantic International Bank, Atlantic Insurance and Atlantic Corporation, along with the Habet group of companies made donations to the Y mounting to over twenty-one thousand dollars.

Sonia Lenares, General Secretary, YWCA
“Well, today we are very fortunate to have Atlantic Group of Companies here with us. They will be giving us funding in the sum of twenty-one thousand dollars to assist us with the renovation of our basketball court; particularly the bleachers in that area. We are also … here with us is the Habet Group of Companies who will provide us with materials to renovate the bleachers in the court area.”

Claudia Lopez, Marketing manager, Atlantic Bank
“We decided to help YWCA because they help, not only young women, but they help women of all ages. From the pre schoolers, they have the Miss Y pageant. So we thought it would be a good idea to help them; not only help with … they help with all the different areas. They do the physical, the emotional, the spiritual. So we thought that the YWCA encompasses everything that we believe in and we thought that it would be a good idea to help them out. So we will be donating, as a group of companies, The Atlantic Group of companies which is Atlantic Bank, Atlantic International Bank, Atlantic Corporate Services and Atlantic Insurance. We came together and we are donating twenty-one thousand dollars to redoing the basketball court. We’ll be re-paving the basketball court as well as putting in concrete bleachers and putting a canopy over.”

Carlo Habet, Representative, Habet Group of Companies
“They approached us after Atlantic to cover the materials and we were happy to oblige because we feel that the one thing we need to do is give back to the community. The community supports us and keeps us in business so we want to keep the community flourishing. We know that the Y has been doing great things, they’ve had great programmes for years now and they are very reliable and we thought why not invest in the Y? It makes a lot of sense, it’s the youth.”

The YWCA still needs another hundred thousand dollars to complete the renovation.
