Crime continues in the Old Capital
We reported on Wednesday night about a shooting Faber’s Road that left two men with injuries to the leg. That occurred just before six o’clock and within an hour, gunshots rang out yet again at ten minutes to seven. This time a man on bicycle rode up and fired six shots at Mark Middleton, who was walking on Cleghorn Street. But the gunman missed his mark and instead Amy Avila, a Honduran National was hit. Avila received a single gunshot to the right thigh.
And within another two hours the police were called a third time for the night. They found Daniel Pineda at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, being treated for a stab wound under the right arm. Pineda, a construction worker, reported that at about twenty minutes to nine he was standing on Hunter’s Lane along with friends when they were approached by Justin Wade, Denroy McFoy and two others. According to Pineda, they got into an argument with the men and McFoy pulled out a knife and stabbed him.
Will MIddleton at least let the police know who shot the woman so that we have one less fool to deal with? The next time the gunman may not miss or worse, kill an innocent bystander.
Boys, you are just ignorant, how many of you have to die before you learn to walk away or resolve disagreements through conversation?
crime out of control and will only get worse as long as this worthless gov. is in power everyone in belize is under the gun anyone can expire at anytime what a sick way to live and until we belizeans get up and say we will take this no more and kick this gov. out of office this will continue.
It is sad that we have to witness so much crime and violence in this nation. It is sad that this world wants to be like eveyone else. This senseless killing, stealing, highjacking, rape, etc.
A lot of it has to do with gangs, gangs which starTed in other countries and brought to Belize. Why? Because we want to be like eveyone else. One has to be oneself, unique.
It is also so sad to see so many people posting comments and blaming the government, the goverment has nothing to do with that, it has to do with the people, the real people. Many of these bandits and criminals as growned up orphans, or maybe grew up with a mom only. It all starts at home, no eduction, no father or mother figure. When will Belize learn that the goverment is not the solution to our problems. We have to take control, we need to educate our children, mentor them, teach them, council them. or else they will grow up to bee like like these monsters who have no heart.
WAKE UP BELIZE, THE GOVERNMENT IS NOT THE SOLUTION AND IF YOU KICK OUT THIS GOVERMENT, DO YOU THINK THE NEXT WLLL BE THE SOLUTION???
I agree with you bzmar, everything is not the government’s fault. The government could work at making the infracture of the country better so jobs can be created. I blame a lot of this on the parents, especially the women who have these children they cannot take care of and unleash them on the people of Belize. I know a woman who had 8 kids and was living with a man who did not work, sit home all day drinking Belicin beer. The two oldest girls took turn going to school because they only had one pair of shoes between the two of them. I bought one of the girls a pair of shoes so she could go the school everyday. Why would a woman want to have 8 kids by 8 different men and take in another fool who was just as broke as she. There in lies part of the problem.
Everyone has a role to play in crime prevention and control: The Churches in reaching out to the general population, the teachers and parents in the discipline and education of each child, the Police in maintaining law and order, by gaining and commanding respect, The social parties in assuring that a child in the street during school time or at night, without an adult, is properly investigated. And finally, YES folks, THE GOVERNMENT, as the bucks stops with them!
The safety of this nation is a major responsibility and while it takes a collaborative effort, the bucks stop with the government! If a gov’t truly has zero tolerance to crime, it will show in every way. Criminals will de deterred from committing crime because they will be subjected to the strict arms of our Justice system, which is the sole responsibility of the Government!
For the record, Amy was going to Church when she was shot. I’m glad that this did not have a more tragic outcome as another innocent bystander is wounded. It’s high time we stop making excuses for this lame @ss Government. The safety of the street and the general public is their responsibility. I can place a high fence around my home or business; burglar bars windows and doors, state of the art alarm system, and a 24hrs security guard and cameras. However, Public safety is the responsibility of the Government. Every time the gov’t fails to secure the streets, because there’s not enough resources, no proper street light, not enough ‘boots on ground’, no security street camera (idea slashed by this government because of cost) they are failing us because they’re simply not trying hard enough.
Let’s be real, if I were to appear on television asking for financial assistance, wearing a thick gold chain, a Rolex watch, jewelries, the latest rags, Gucci sunglass, and top it all off a pair of the latest Air Jordan, you guys would say WTF! The same applies to any so-called cash strapped government: How could you tell us to tighten our belts, when you and your non elected cronies are riding SUVs worth more than $200,000, other cronies are being paid 6 figure incomes, and are granted 2 to 3 jobs, where they don’t even work a total of 40 hrs per week. Yet we still pay very high taxes, Still can’t get more than 30 patients to receive free Hemodialysis, the Public Hospitals give minimum service for free, the city does not have a single street that is pot hole free, there isn’t a single area in the city, which has not witnessed a murder or serious assault in the past 5 years. Not even the children are safe in their own homes… Remember Eyannie was asleep in her home, and Marquis was sitting on his step! RIP
Curious………….. THE CHURCHES HAVE FAILED US…………..even after the Pastor’s son got killed.
THEY FORGOT….or….. DON’T KNOW…………THAT ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE WITH GOD.
