Shooting victim checks out of hospital and home

There was a shooting incident last night in the old capital.  Luckily the victim survived the incident.  At seven p.m. on Sunday night twenty one y ear old Luis Figueroa, a resident of Ebony Street, was walking behind the Farmer’s Market.  Figueroa heard a loud bang which he quickly realized was a gunshot.  His instincts made him look in the direction that the sound came from and he saw a man wearing a white T-Shirt ride, ride his bicycle towards the fire station.  And that was when Figueroa felt the burn on his left upper shoulder.  He had been shot.   The area was canvassed by Scenes of Crime Technicians.  No shells were recovered. Figueroa was listed in a stable condition but when officers arrived at the KHMH, Figueroa had already left the building. He was neither present at his Ebony Street home. Investigations continue.

And in Belmopan, a man is recuperating from gunshot wounds he suffered on Saturday morning.  Police say they responded to a report in Cotton Tree Village where they saw Cruz Castillo, who was wanted for a number of burglaries in Belmopan.  Castillo, who was reportedly armed with a gun, was seen fleeing behind a building and was ordered to stop by one of four officers. The Belmopan formation’s PC Scott told Castillo he was under arrest, but Castillo reached into his pants waist.  That was when he was shot in the left lower back and had to be hospitalized.  Castillo now lies in critical condition at the Western Regional Hospital.  The Commissioner of Police has ordered both a criminal and an internal investigation.

Figueroa does not fear the Police, he is laying low because he is now a target & “they” may return to finish the job.

Did they find a gun on Castillo or is this a convenient cover story because he didn’t die like he was supposed to? Castillo, if you survive, you obviously need some career counseling, this one is not working for you.

Maybe cops should wait until they see the gun before they fire when someone has their back turned towards them. I think they should shoot only after the person has reached into his pocket/waist and starts to make a turning motion. Don;t just shoot when thebally have his back turned bcas the polilce are not in immediate danger. If this story is accurate the police should have simply said stop or i will shoot you in you head back and I am sure Castillo would have stopped.
