Justice finally getting served for watchman, Roberto Carlos
A Corozal Freezone watchman survived a brutal attack back in February 2008 and almost three years later, he is finally getting justice. Roberto Carlos left work at about three a.m. and was walking on Eleventh Avenue when he was ambushed by two men and a woman, wearing masks. Carlos says he was chopped three times by one of the men; once on the left arm and behind his neck and both his pinky fingers were severed. The trio also robbed him of seventy-eight Belize dollars and a hundred fifty six pesos. But it didn’t end there; the assailants stripped Carlos down to his underwear, took his clothes and disappeared into the night. He was later able to identify twenty-nine year old Roque Gonzalez and twenty-five year old Erma Molina while police investigations led to the arrest of the third suspect, twenty-five year old Gaspar Martinez. Charges against Martinez were withdrawn due to lack of evidence, but in the Corozal Supreme Court late Tuesday evening there was overwhelming evidence against Gonzalez and Molina on a charge of Attempted Murder. The two had initially pleaded not guilty, but changed to a guilty plea to the lesser charge of Dangerous Harm. Justice Herbert Lord reserved sentencing for December twentieth, but Gonzalez and Molina are facing a maximum jail term of twenty years.
