Former Chief Justice of Belize, Dr. Abdulai Conteh, is now a Justice of the Bahamian Court of Appeal. Governor-General of that Caribbean country, Sir Arthur Foulkes, swore in the former CJ on November twenty-ninth.  He served as Belize’s Chief Justice for ten years and then in 2008, he was also appointed a Justice of Appeal of Cayman Islands Court of Appeal. Justice Conteh is a member of the Bar in both Sierra Leone and Gambia and has extensive graduate studies in law, including international law and international  organizations and the Law of Treaties including the UN Charter with  doctoral thesis focusing on some problems involving use of force by States and UN practice. With all these credentials, he was refused to stay in Belize to complete the cases before him.

It’s a pity that a country like the Bahamas can see the value in this man and has taken him on as a justice in their court of appeal without the action of the Barrow administration to terminate his services having an impact on that decision, I am sure that there will be a lot to talk about when he meets with his colleagues regarding the interference of the GOB into the affairs of the judiciary system in Belize.
