2010/2011 sugar crop season officially open
The 2010/2011 sugar crop season officially got underway today following a multimillion dollar bailout from the Government of Belize after weeks of uncertainty. The Belize Sugar Industries Limited faced a major financial dilemma when it failed to make a third payment to thousands of sugar cane farmers. In mid-November the Prime Minister of Belize during a sitting of the House of Representatives was asked to intervene in the matter. GOB subsequently guaranteed a ten million dollar loan to jumpstart the upcoming sugar crop season with the third payment being made on December seventh following waivers granted by ING and FirstCaribbean International Bank. The industry will now benefit from a sixteen million dollar revolving fund scheme to be managed by the Caribbean Development Bank. For their part farmers have committed to produce one point one million tons of sugar cane to be milled during the new crop season. Belize Sugar Industries Limited in light of its recent financial woes has also secured a pre-payment loan from Tate & Lile to avoid such recurrences. To start the crop today, a ceremony was held at the Tower Hill factory and like in the other events of the day, the government boycotted this station and kept us away from the proceedings.
Somebody heard me
They delivered cane of a visibly improved quality; it was green, robust, without the usual, leaves, roots and mud and it was not burnt.
keep up the good work!!!!!!!!!
‘dean barrow-why he didn’ t come when the cane farmers requested a meeting with him in february of 2008 and he just ordered the police and BDF to do wat they have to do to remove the canefarmers from blocking the toll bridge in protest of the coresampler -and we all know wat transpired after the PM’s ARROGANT demand to remove by force the poor cane farmers ….and unfortunately one cane farmer was murdered with the orders of our PM…the PM SAID “if i have to do it again I will do it again! I repeat that is not my industry I repeat that is not my industy”…….those were words spoken by our own PM during that massacre that occured in february of 2008.and now because he lend $10 million to BSI now he feels the cane farmers have already forgotten wat he dean barrow did in february of 2008,and dean barrow lend the $10 million to BSI not to the cane farmers it for the benefit of BSI not for the poor canefarmers understand….the cane farmers no get noting out a d $10 million …..BSI went into crisis its because the directors have been steaing all the profits from BSI ….corruption as always and now they want to blame the canefarmers’. its all BSI\GOB fault.
Channel 5 looks like you guys will need to start going undercover to expose the dirty works of the GOB and find out who these corrupted politicians and government employees are and who all are taking bribes and the like as there are plenty of that going on and quite easy to expose since the GOB will not let you all in on what is happening, all should be fair under these conditions it’s time to invest into some spy gadgets.
