Guatemalan woman has 15 year sentence for manslaughter reduced to 6 years
Yanira Escobar, is a Guatemalan national also known as Dominga Fernandez, who has been in jail since July 2005. Hers is one of the rare cases of a woman being charged with murder. Escobar was initially charged for the stabbing death of Yenesia Judith Salguero in San Ignacio. After waiting three years for trial, the charge was reduced to manslaughter on August sixth, 2008. Later that month she was sentenced to fifteen years, but that was overruled by the court of appeal in 2009 and a retrial was ordered. Today, her sentence was reduced to six years in the Belmopan Supreme Court by Justice Troadio Gonzalez. During the retrial this week, Escobar changed her plea of not guilty for manslaughter to guilty on the advice of her attorney Dickie Bradley. The reduced sentence came after mitigation pleas, an apology from Escobar and a submission from Bradley that she was only seventeen years old at the time of the incident. He also argued that Escobar had just moved to Belize seeking employment and didn’t intend to hurt Salguero. He said she acted out of fear because she was confronted by a group of women at King’s Night Club in San Ignacio.
On the night of July third, 2005, Escobar was insulted by a group of women at the club and an argument ensued with Salguero. The altercation got physical and Salguero was fatally stabbed. She was rushed to the San Ignacio Hospital where she died early the following morning. Since Escobar has been imprisoned since 2005, she may now be eligible for parole with the reduced sentence.

Funny how Dickie advices foreign women to plea guilty to their charges…Why doesn’t he advice the local young men he repeatedly represent for murder and manslaughter to plea guilty to their charges?

Wonder if a Belizean would get an agnate treatment in Guate? This is when Belize will change and that is when Belizeans who decide If you’re gonna murder someone, why don’t you pick a filth of the earth. Some scumbag the police can’t touch because of connections or power or whatever. If you’re gonna kill, make it worthwhile and earn yourself some potentially positive karma points. Example; in the USA they kill doctors who perform abortions, when we start killing off these phuking lawyers and politicians then shyt will start straighten out, can’t make an omelete without breaking a few eggs, we jump up with vain popping in our forehead when a street criminal strikes but when we realize the source of the problem (white collar criminals, mainly politicians/lawyers) and start taking them out then we will create some balance in Belize, the white collar criminals hardly get a wrist swatting much less getting locked up and much more deservedly…assassinated; Rodwell was a good example gone awry (the grim reaper messed up) and Boots got his car shotup……..but then again most politicians are aligned with the street thugs soooo there is that.
