Stella Maris celebrates Golden Jubilee

Story PictureFor fifty years, Stella Maris School has been providing support to children with various disabilities. To celebrate that Golden Jubilee and its achievements, the school is hosting a week of activities, one of which is being held tonight. The ceremony, says school Principal Joy Westby, is to recognise those who have contributed to the success of the institution.

“We’re going to be having an activity filled with entertainment from the students. We’re gonna be having finger snacks, thanks to contributions from business communities. We’re going to be giving them awards and gifts.”

Marion Ali
“What have you guys accomplished, the most outstanding accomplishments and what are your goals for the future?”

“When someone hears Stella Maris School, I think the name Sister Elsa Oliva is synonymous to this school. I’ve been here for twenty-four years and the programmes that were in place when she was here, I must say that they have been revived and are still going on, like the REAP programme, clothing and textiles. Most of the students who pass through the institution, after assessment, we realised that many of them are not academically inclined and thus the reason for us moving forward to implementing more practical skills.”

On Thursday, the school will be holding a reunion for former students and on Friday, they plan to have a mini fair on the compound.
