Cook freed of drug trafficking charges
Who owns the weed? That was what Magistrate Aretha Ford had to determine in a case that concluded today. Police believe that ten pounds of marijuana found in a house on Raccoon Street belonged to Leila Marie Adolphus Williams, but she says not so. The forty-nine year old was charged with Drug Trafficking and Possession of Controlled Drugs, following a search on July thirtieth 2009. Williams was facing a jail term of no less than three years plus a fine of ten thousand dollars, but she got good news this afternoon and was freed of all charges. On the day of the search, police picked up Williams from Holy Redeemer Primary School where she works as a cook, and then took her to a home on Raccoon Street. The cops asked her to open the door, but she explained that she did not have a key because it was not her house. The officers gained entry through a window and conducted the search. The drugs were found in two sacks in the bathroom and Williams was arrested. Police say they also found a cable bill in Williams’ name as well as pictures of her on the wall and inside a photo album at the house. But according to Williams, she had done a favor for her neighbor and installed his cable in her name, but she did not live at the house nor did she know about any illegal activities occurring there. Magistrate Ford, in handing down her decision, said that the prosecution did not succeed in proving without a doubt that Williams lived at the house where the drugs were found.
With friends like hers, who needs enemies. If she didn’t live in the house, did she bother to tell the Police who was the recipient of her generosity?
Mrs. Williams, you dodged a bullet & I hope you gained something from this experience.
Now how darn hard can it be to prove that someone lives at a house when her pictures are on the wall and the cable bill is in her name? Well since Leila claimed she did not live at this house did she provided information as to where she lives?
dats how suck belize police deh…….
Now what else does the Police have to do. They produce a bill and photo of her in the home and admitted in evidence that their was even an album of her in the house and this case was still thrown out. Our legal system is so stupid.
d police noh suck, d magistrate does though, cause all evidence is there what else does she need to see to believe that the weed is for williams. cmon aretha ford.
MOST OF THE TIME IT’S NOT THE POLICE FAULT CAUSE NOT ALL THE POLICE ARE BAD PEOPLE. IT’S THE JUDICIAL SYSTEM THAT NEEDS TO TIGHTEN UP, THEY ARE SO NOT DOING THEIR JOBS THESE DAYS. KEEP ON LETTING CRIMINALS BACK IN THE STREETS.
Hey, i really worry now i have to look around and make sure nobody have a picture of mine hanged around somewhere.what if i have the picture of my primer minister .
Could it be that she was working for the magistrate? Seems like the marijuana business could be pretty profitable in Belize and really fool proof, just tell court that is not your home when they find your stash there.
This BS don’t even make sense the evidence was more than good to convict this lady.
i bet she still kept her jobs too no wonder all the school kids get high now and they provide them a cook too if they get the munchies lol
Next time do a sting and take her picture as she use the key to open the door. Then take her down and gather up clothing and other things if you have to as evidence that she live there. Maybe the police need video camera to take on these bust to use as evidence in court.
