3 minors injured in Spanish Lookout accident
Three Cayo minors were injured in an accident in Cayo. A thirteen year old boy of Spanish Lookout reported that on the twelfth of January, he was driving a green and black 2007 Honda ATV motorcycle without a license plate, on Route Twenty East of the community. And upon reaching a curve, he lost control of the motor cycle. It overturned on the right side of the road. At the time, the thirteen year old was accompanied by two other minors from Spanish Lookout. All three occupants received head and body injuries and were transported to the Western Regional Hospital in Belmopan for treatment. The ATV, which is the property of forty year old Jake Letkeman, was neither insured nor damaged.
Aren’t people who operate motorized vehicles on public roads supposed to have a license or learner’s permit & a licensed driver with them? And be at least 16?
Who is to blame for such irresponsible behaviour, the GOB.
The idiot got what he deserved; he may live this time to learn a valuable lesson, while the negligent Jake Letkeman who may or may have known the teen had his property got away without a scratch to his property.( pointless post).
HOW THE HECK IS THIS???A THIRTEEN YEAR OLD BOY DRIVING???
COMMON TRANSPORT DEPT, CHARGE THE PARENTS
LET ME CLEAR THIS TO SOME BLOGGERS
this private community has a distinct way of living meaning they have opportunities we regular belizeans don’t have. in their community kids drive around freely meaning that the law or transport dept cant do nothings. anybody who has been in the community shopping can tell you this. kids driving ATV like maniacs doing willies no wonder a lot of them are rush to the Belmopan hospital for this reason. they have a police station but only used mostly for the belizeans caught in trouble cause this community has their own constables who do their work. so forget about trans dept doing something. they only have access to the outskirts of spanish lookout villages where you see them holding villagers riding motor cycles with no license or insurance and other car drivers with no driving license as well. many more of these happens but never make it to the news since they avoid media scandals.
Hope the kids weren’t seriously injured. ATV is an expensive toy to let kids play with, hope jake learn a lesson if he gave them permission to ride it.
You people need to get facts straight before you post public comments. These 3 children drive a very short distance every day to school. This young lad did not get what he deserved. The accident happened because he saw a couple of kids(who were not on motorbikes) in the middle of the road, and looking at them he called out to them to get off the road. In so doing he lost control. And in my opinion it is just as dangerous when I see dozens of school kids walking along the western highway on their way home from school, some very small children, unsupervised. …You would do very good not to judge and point fingers. Spanish Lookout operates under a lot of laws, and a lot of people in Belize have a very poor understanding of this.
All the roads in Spanish Lookout are private roads, not public, so the traffic laws do not apply. It’s not uncommon to see 8 year olds driving pick up trucks in Spanish Lookout.
FOR peoples information people of this community have been on there own for many years ,without the help of no one ,no goverment no other people other than giving jobs so lets be realistic an dont attack the parents of these minors, if they get in accident they pay there own own bills and like christians they help each other, they build there own roads they pay taxes and help belizeans in a way that no one else would do .if they would only say what all they do for belize we would all be saying thank God.as licence and insurance who allowed it so give me a break.if they enforce a law then they would obey .but for years the kids are taught how to drive an manage big eqiupments thats why theres such beautiful fields of beans and u name it.lets be brothers in Christ an support our fellow brothers.

belizeanpride says: “this private community has a distinct way of living meaning they have opportunities we regular belizeans don’t have”.
It is not only opportunities others do not have, but it is also hard work and dedication others do not seem to have. Which other community pays for their own roads, with money collected from only their locality? With that in mind, why would the national transport dept. manage the traffic there? Which other community, or village, town or city in our lovely Belize is as orderly and well kept? What is the essence of the whole country knowing that going to Spanish Lookout very likely means being able to get what is not available elsewhere in the country?
It also has happened that the police want to charge obviously non-guilty individuals, in order to protect their friends, rather than to uphold justice. In fact, it is common that accidents are caused by outsiders as well as SLC residents.
The kid was driving a vehicle that his father paid for, on a road paid for by the community, he was taken to the best hospital in Belize, the Health Care Partners by a Ambulance paid for by the community, and his father paid thousands for their treatment.
The kids were not treated in Belmopan.
most of teh comments are bull! you live in a land called belize and all must be subjected to the laws of the land. What the hell are people talking about. If anyone does not want to abide by the law of the land where they live then they are in the wrong place. This goes for all with no exception. The road is public it is in no ones backyard. All go there. In your piece of land you make a gate and people have to ask to come in. If this place is a private place, is in the moon, why can it be easily accessed? Are they different than any Belizean so that they can be exempted from our laws our rules?
