Price of fuel at the pump continues to rise
The following story is not about crime, but it will deal a cruel blow to consumers. So if your vehicle’s tank can hold anymore fuel then best you head out to the gas station and fill up before midnight. As you’ve probably figured out by now, fuel prices will take another hike just two weeks after an increase on December twenty eighth. Premium will be going up from ten dollars and twenty-nine cents per gallon to ten forty-five, up by sixteen cents. Regular goes up from ten dollars and four cents to ten dollars and twelve cents a gallon, diesel jumps by eight cents and will be selling at nine dollars and thirty-two cents a gallon, and kerosene is up by fifteen cents at ten dollars a gallon. Just last Wednesday we asked Prime Minister Dean Barrow what the government’s take on the rising fuel prices is and his response was that it depends on international prices, but he is not inclined to revisiting the one dollar tax imposed in March 2009.
Now….we see the real criminals in this country; the rest….just a decoy, keep poor people fighting with each other and the nation’s attention focused on the spiraling crime and this article, i doubt will get more than 5 comments….look like Barrow can fool most of the people most of the time.
In 2010 belize government over 100 million$$ loans, who you think is going to pay this money back?poor belizeans.how?tax on everything sold and everything entering belize, cars, been tax at 70% now.of the other things tax we belizeans are not supporse to know.belize government, pup or udp run the government like a private party.
Look Belize is not the only country crying about the high price of petrol, please just search the internet and you will realised that the cost of petrol across the globe continue to rise each day. Good time to invest some money.
Only the people in the oil rich gulf countries are able to find petrol cheaper than water. Please don’t make the cost of petrol in Belize political.
Make a stance if you feel so strongly about the price of petrol get out your cars (get rid of it) and start walking and riding your bikes. It’s only in the past 20 years that people developed this mentality that we must all be driving in the tiny city and as we began doing so the waste lines have expanded proportionally. Having a motor vehicle is a status symbol and an unnecessary luxury. How long would it take to walk from one side of the city to the other? Maximum half hour to 45 minutes at a brisk pace, and watch your health status improve. Stop being like the lazy americans who use the car to go one block. They have an efficient health service if they have health insurance to accommodate the sedentary lifestyle unfortunately we don’t.
WE NEED TO BUILD A REFINERY……………. We need to be self sustaining.
Hugo Chavez ……….will help us build one…………….BUT WE HAVE TO ASK.
WE NEED TO BUILD A REFINERY………. CONTROLLED BY THE GoB……….TO KEEP PRICES LOW for the people, BY LAW!!!
To radicalbelizean: Bs, what you are saying is purely bs. Owning a vehicle is no longer a luxury, it is a necesity; some people use their vehicle to make a living and offer service to the people. The local price of fuel has been jacked up by the heavy tax imposed by our inept government. Compare today’s price of over $10 and crude oil being at arround $90; back some months ago before the recession it was $10+ but crude oil was at $147.00. So you can conclude that the present fuel price is not due to the world price of crude or prcessing.
Good job Radical Belizean! I need not say any more….
so the oil sold out by BNE to i don’t know who or which country doesn’t benefit no poor low class Belizeans except the elite group of this country. so more oil exploration won’t help us but marginalize us more to higher prices. i thought it would help but has been some disappointing issue to talk about now. if a refinery is brought into Belize we the poor are going to pay for it while still we might not benefit from the oil business. now to go to work i spend almost half the amount i earn in a day trip since no bus runs that route. Jeez we’re screwed with high price NO MATTA WAT.
i agree wit some ah weh radical seh but all dat part bout car is a luxury u gann too far. i wit u wit dont blame the government gas is up all over the world rite now i paying dam near 3.45 a gallon a big hike cause juss 2 weeks ago itwas 2.85. an yea i use my car to go one block even half a block away
In 2008 when gas prices dropped to their lowest, Barrow claimed it was his govt that was responsible for the drop in prices (completely ridiculous). He said nothing about international prices back then. Iin fact, he promised to revisit the his new fuel taxes if the price of gas was to rise again. Now that prices are going through the roof, he blames it on international prices. It is true that international prices dictate local gas prices, whether they fall or rise. However, why the hell are we drilling for oil if we continue to allow local fuel prices to soar so high? Oil revenues could be used to offset the rising international prices. We might as well stop drilling for oil as it is not benefitting us in any way.
And, radical belizean, learn to spell. Also, in Belize we say gas not petrol. Who the hell do you think you are?
What’s up with the WINDFALL TAX that suppose to subsidize all of this high imported fuel prices!!! The oil market now is $91.67 per gallon (OIL-PRICE.NET@January, Friday 14 2011)
Belizeans need to stop be so dumb like donkey and tek everything the gob set. We need to stand up and protest everybody and let the gob know we will stop take this crap.
Let start proteting
Oscar:
Whether we use Gas, Gasoline, Petrol or Petroleum or fuel everyone know what we are referring to. But then again I forgot some people have very limited vocabulary. Furthermore forgive me for being presumptuous but I thought that everyone would get the pun.

Earl Grey is spot on, Chavez will help with a refinery, and finance part at a low interest rate.
It cant hurt to explore all options, already deals in the works across the caribbean,25 cent a gallon gas in Venezuala. think about that boost to the economy
Earl Grey, we need a massive write in, demonstration campaign against this our Government, people need to drop everything they are doing and stand up and fight, because there will soon be nothing to fight for. Believer that, there is not an ounce of joke in that.
RadicalBelizean is what you call an apologist and a pessimist; he apologizes for the Government in screwing the people of people and apologize for his own ignorance in simply accepting things because…they…just…are. He is a pessimist because he can’t seem to comprehend or refuse to comprehend that fuel, petrol, gas whatever you want to call it, is not only used in private autos, it is a significant overhead in the tourism industry (trust me, I know), it is also used in the bus lines for PEOPLE WHO DON’T HAVE CARS, it indirectly affects the cost of living; when goods are transported across the country to grocery stores, the cost of those goods is affected by the transport cost as well; economists have stated on several occasion that the cost of fuel/energy (especially electricity, which we pay the highest in this hemisphere) is one of the main factors as to why it would be almost impossible to have industry in Belize. Why the hell do you think America is in Iraq and Afghanistan; you think cause they love the people and want to spread democracy so bad? OPEN YOUR EYES.
I totally agree with orange walk stating that owning a vehicle isnt a luxury anymore but a necessity. Radical belizean plz open your mind and think for a while, I understand the healthy part and all of that but for once you cant tell me you have never been in a vehicle, bus or a taxi due to a delay or an emergency. If you havent its because you dont have a job or maybe life is too damn good for you. well let me emphasize that all the transportation services here in Belize and everywhere need fuel and it depends on GOB to set a convenient prices on fuel. Sadely in our country we the citizens are being taken advantage of by our Government. Now having petroleum many thought it would help us Belizeans in lowering fuel taxes but unfortunetly prices are even getting higher everytime. We the hard working people shouldnt be feeding and fattening our government with our sweats. We should stand up and speak up
Maybe the government should stop lining their pockets with the money they get for selling all of our oil to be exported and instead keep a sufficient supply and build a refinery to supply cheaper gas to the already poverty stricken Belizean citizens. It appears that the both PUP and UDP want to keep the population downtrodden and uneducated because if the people do become educated they will see our government for the crooks they are!
Ministers, do something to help your people for once instead of looking out for yourselves.
