Mayor expected to be charged for under-depositing
So are the police close to making an arrest at City Hall for the unaccounted funds of close to a quarter of million dollars from its coffers? We asked the Director of Public Prosecutions, Cheryl-Lynn Branker-Taitt. She confirmed that she has completed her review of the file and has forwarded her instructions to the police. When we checked, the police acknowledged receipt and said that action will be taken by the end of the week. Three persons have already been suspended from work at the recommendations of the Councilors and in the Mayor’s absence: Finance Director Dwane Davis, his assistant, Kiran Bhudrani and Phillip Henry. But sources confirm to News 5 that Mayor Moya herself and two Citco employees will be facing criminal charges sometime between Tuesday and Thursday. Earlier today we asked Councilor Philip Willoughby for his take on the so called under-depositing since the Mayor is not talking.
Phillip Willoughby, Councillor for Garbage
“The financials of the council are posted in the newspapers does it say anything about under-depositing occurred? Secondly, whenever we have our monthly council meetings and the mayor presents the financial position of the council, does it state anything of under-deposits? So how now then can the media houses take the position to say that the councilors should have known when it took an audit of that sort and magnitude to reveal such a thing? So now you get on the media and you disrespect my integrity—especially my integrity—to say I should have known and I can’t only go on the reports and the posting of the financial position of the council at any given point in time and once it does not say under-depositing, how does the councilors know?”
