Arthur Saldivar to be endorsed as P.U.P. Rural North candidate

arthur saldivar

The National Executive of the People’s United Party met in what they refer to as an emergency session on Wednesday. But during that meeting, two P.U.P. execs said they were resigning; that’s Deputy Leader Dan Silva and Executive Member Hugh O’Brien. Both say that they cannot support conventions that are merely endorsements and that the party should allow elections.  The uproar has to do with the conventions and whether or not the P.U.P. will allow those to be contested or simply to be endorsements. The most recent controversy was over this weekend’s convention in Belize Rural North. Arthur Saldivar and Jerome Wade had both applied to contest, but the Order of Distinguished Service interviewed both candidates, and recommended that one be disqualified. The aggrieved candidate, Wade appealed the recommendation, and his appeal was upheld. But apparently, in preparing for the convention, both candidates signed an agreement, which stated among other things, that the convention will be conducted in conformity with the constitution of the P.U.P. And that’s where it got bogged down. The end result was that this Sunday the convention will not be contested and Saldivar will be endorsed as the candidate. The P.U.P. today issued a release on the matter.

BELIZEAN elect the two elected political candidates (PUP or UDP)…..democracy can be nourished if there are internal political party CONVENTIONS and not ENDORSEMENT!!!

Valid points from a virtual forum on Facebook::::

The two biggest mafias in Belize…

1.) why political parties never publish the CV of their political candidates?

CV [education level, experience, achievements, skills, abilities, community involvement (before becoming a candidate), etc…]

2.) they buy people with $100- $500,etc…but the poor people don’t realize that that money is for them to be satisfied for 5years…divide that-how much it comes out in per year, per month, per weeks, per day,….it comes out into ‘cents’ per day …

3.) and also, MANIFESTO are promises…and promises are a comfort for the fools…we never see no political party in Belize present real viable proposals (public policies, programmes, plans, projects, etc..)…

these are some points that i want Belizeans to reflect on….Belizeans should question the political candidates and demand results from their representatives.

WE ARE THE CHANGE MY FRIENDS…..we need to change the mind set of the people….am sadden that Belizeans are indoctrinated by the two major political parties.

the pup seems to can’t miss an opportunity, to miss an opportunity!!

with the udp eating their own in the recent standard bear elections, what would send a clearer message of democracy than abiding by the pup constitution, and having a legitimate standard bearer election?

nothing against mr. saldivar, who would have won anyway, but, now he’s got to carry this baggage.

  5. BZNinCALI says:

Again, PUP, the Belizean people need to see real differences in the political parties & this move is a reminder that nothing has changed. Allow the voters to have a real choice.

Jerome wade not fit to run for politics

  7. PRINCE MICHAELS says:

Well its no surprise to me that the outcome of this situation is indeed one sided! But then again we are dealing with politics here and its the most corrupt system in the entire world no matter what country u live in. Arthur you are a really good friend of mine bro but I will have to agree with the other 2 resigning executives on this matter. It seems unconstitutional and unfair for the other competing candidate to have to withdraw under the said terms. Furthermore, I also think in order to ensure stability and integrity within the PUP then we must be willing to exercise fairness on all angles. Is it justified that the 2 veteran politicians resign over this matter? Absolutely! But when you ask the question if its worth it to resign given the circumstances, I hardly think so.
