He admitted stabbing victim, but said he was also antagonized
He bears the same name as the former Commissioner of Police, but sixty-three year old Gerald Westby acted outside of the law when he stabbed Conrad Guzman on Wednesday morning. Westby was arraigned today for Attempted Murder, Use of Deadly Means of Harm and Dangerous Harm when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Margaret Gabb. Although he has admitted to committing the act, several stories about what led to the stabbing came up in court. In his statement to police, Westby claimed that Guzman harassed him to his breaking point and that is why he stabbed him. Meanwhile, Ian Gentle, who was present when the stabbing occurred, said he heard Guzman demand that Westby hand over his belongings before things got violent. But since Westby is no stranger to the bottle and was drinking at the time, other witnesses say that he was simply intoxicated. The actual cause of the incident and the penalty will be determined when Westby’s case continues in court on October twenty-sixth. In the interim, he will be a resident at the Hattieville prison since the offence is indictable and he cannot be offered bail.
