15 shotguns stolen from Belize City store
Less than a day after police destroyed a year’s worth of illegal weapons, thieves managed to restore a treasure trove of firepower to the streets. Police say sometime between eight on Wednesday night and eight Thursday morning someone entered William Quan Store at the corner of Albert and Orange Streets and removed a total of fifteen shotguns. The weapons include ten pump twelves and five single action twelve gauge guns. Owner of the store, John Quan, told police that there were no signs of forced entry and while police have not ruled out anything, they are looking at the possibility of it being an inside job. The weapons, which are worth over fourteen thousand dollars, have not been recovered. Also stolen from the store were a lap top computer and camera, both valued at over four thousand dollars. While police have questioned some members of staff, they have made no arrests. As presently configured the shotguns are considered too unwieldy to use in urban crime, but once the barrels are cut down the pump twelves are formidable weapons for the type of street warfare now raging in certain areas of Belize City.
