All Saints Anglican will host Gospel Fest

Story PictureWhen you think of music festivals, particularly on a holiday weekend in Belize, the idea of a gospel fest seldom comes to mind. But that’s exactly what All Saint’s Parish on Dunn Street in the city is trying for the second year in a row. The event, which takes place on May twenty-fourth, features an array of food and drink, speeches and storytelling in addition to song. In short, it’s a fundraiser and revival all rolled into one. Priest in Charge of All Saints, Father Wayne Kirton, who also chairs the festival committee, told News Five that the fest features several choirs from all over Belize.

“I think we have some of the best choirs that Belize …”

“Are they gonna be fully regaled and …”

Father Wayne Kirton
“Oh yeah, they will come with the full works. You’re gonna see, last year for example, with the Methodist Prayer Singer, when they come they come in the uniform, they come with the full backing. When the Central Assembly come they will come in the same way. So it’s not where we are trying to put on something but not giving people quality. Through things like the gospel fest to seek to encourage people that it is not only the music, but really and truthfully that you need to use the opportunities to come together and fellowship and worship and be part of what is the humility of faith. And I think that is what, hopefully, the Gospel Fest as it continues to grow—because hopefully this will not be the end of it—as we continue to grow people will see it as an avenue to get into other areas in worship.”

Kirton is inviting the Belizean community to the gospel fest which runs from three p.m. until nine at the church grounds. Entrance fee is only one dollar.
