4-H promotes walk against child hunger
The World Food Program estimates that every day around fifty-nine million children go to school hungry. While the increase in the number of feeding programmes in Belize has greatly assisted our own needy students, on Thursday one local organisation will be walking in Belmopan to raise awareness of child hunger around the world. According to 4-H Youth Agent, Jerry Wagner, they are inviting residents to act locally and impact globally by participating in the event and increasing their knowledge.

“Walk the World is an event put on by the World Food Program, an agency of the United Nations that feeds hundreds of millions of people all over the world every year. It’s the largest humanitarian organisation. This event helps raise the awareness of child hunger; that a child dies every five seconds. It also helps to raise funds for the World Food Program to feed children all over the world in school. That provides incredible benefits; food attracts children to school, keeps them there and we are very proud to be partnering with HECOPAB to put on this event. The walk will start at the Market Greens, in Belmopan in the centre of town, and we will walk around the Ring Road one time and finish at the market grounds. That’s where HECOPAB will distribute their nutritional information; it will last, we think, until about eleven-thirty.”
Although the local walk will take place Thursday, the international Walk the World event is set to take place on June first.
