“Good Samaritan” is bad to the bone
A Good Samaritan who came to the aid of a robbery victim last Thursday morning turned out instead to be bad to the bone. Thirty year old security guard, Abner Najera, reported to police that he was walking on Orange Street around two a.m. when he was suddenly jumped by five men. During the attack, another man came upon the scene and told the group to leave the guard alone. They obeyed and the apparent saviour kindly walked Najera to King Street … but instead of letting him go on his way, demanded money. Najera said when he told the man he had no cash, he was beaten and relieved of a hundred and twenty dollars, along with his ATM card. Not satisfied with that take, the robber then put a knife to Najera’s neck and began escorting him to the downtown Scotiabank cash machine so Najera could withdraw some more money. Upon crossing the Swing Bridge, Najera said he escaped and ran straight to the police station where he reported the crime. Quick work by police led to the arrest of nineteen year old Shane Jones of East Collet Canal, who was charged with Robbery.
