Police constable arrested after bizarre incident

Story PictureA report by police constable David Griffith that around nine-thirty Wednesday night he was threatened by another officer, twenty-six year old Delmar Moguel, has resulted in the arrest of Moguel. P.C. Moguel was charged with Threat of Death when he appeared today in Magistrates’ Court. The prosecution objected to bail on the grounds that the tension between the two officers might escalate and Moguel might interfere with Griffith. Moguel’s attorney, Velda Flowers, responded and said that Moguel should be granted bail because he has no criminal record and will not interfere with Griffith. Magistrate Albert Hoare did not uphold the objection and offered Moguel bail of two thousand five hundred dollars with the condition that he does not go within one hundred yards of Griffith and that he reports to the Clerk of Court every Monday. Moguel is to return to court on June twelfth.

That’s the story from the Magistrates’ Court. But in their own report released by the police press office, the Department alleges that Moguel’s Isuzu Trooper was spotted by a police patrol responding to a call about shots fired in the St. Martin’s area. The Trooper, occupied by two men, was said to have tried to elude police and when it reached the corner of Mahogany and Lakeview Streets, someone in the SUV started shooting at the cops who returned fire. The Trooper escaped but police later detained Moguel and a friend, Darren Banks. The police report did not mention any threat made against Griffith and in the court hearing nothing was mentioned about any shoot-out.
