Another nolle prosequi signals the end of a murder trial

It’s a month and a half into 2011, and already there are eleven murders on record. While in the courts, four murder cases have fallen apart; leaving a total of six accused killers free to roam the streets. In three of those instances, the trials ended in a nolle prosequi because witnesses were too afraid or simply refused to testify. Today, Dean Dawson walked out of the Supreme Court and ran down the street to celebrate his freedom after almost four years behind bars. He was accused murdering twenty-two year old Floyd Gladden Junior, who was gunned down in 2007. 
In court this morning before Justice Adolph Lucas, Prosecutor Yohhahnseh Cave told the court that the sole witness in the case indicated to the D.P.P. that she feared for her life and did not want to testify. With no other evidence against Dawson, a nolle prosequi had to be entered. On September fourth, 2007 Gladden, who was also known as ‘Cinco Seis’, was trimming trees inside a yard on Warrie Street when a lone gunman rode up and opened fire. Gladden was hit several times and died on the way to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. The motive for the murder was believed to be gang related since Gladden was the nephew of Crip leader George “Junie Balls” McKenzie, who was killed one week earlier.
But he looks like such a sweetheart. The streets will take care of him soon enough.

Rod, I like you. Once you have poor leadership what do you expect. PM loo at MUbarak, follow suit. You wanted to be PM for so long, you got the job and failed, move on. Belizeans maybe we have to engage insome mafia activity to rid Belize of these scums. They obviously are protected and fingers seem to point in one direction. If a few of them are killed before trial, we would only be doing ouselves a favour. PM and scums always remember there is always someone mightier.

Tell me something new, same old story. Come back to his hood and is hailed as a street heroe, and got the proud title of gunman. Only 2 things is going to happen as a result. 1. Most likely he will live up to his title, and kill again because of a failed court system. 2. Someone going to catch him slipping and blow his morrow, and take his title. This is nothing but a see-saw game going on in Belize. Like I said before the only resolution to this problem is to give the police a license to kill these fool before they reach station. It is hurting Belize economy, because noone want to come and invest but the white man. Who is known to take peoples countries away
We simply have to stop relying on eyewitness’ testimony as the sole piece of evidence in major cases. In the US, DNA evidence freed a lot of mainly Black men (since we all look alike). In Belize, we will never get DNA evidence because then defense lawyers will really have to work for their money, and since lawyers and criminals run things in Belize, DNA will remain science fiction to us.
At best we can try to get some street cameras with night vision, and some proper street lights instead of that dull yellow light scattered around the city. It’s a start Mr. PM, just think about it. The previous administration bought some overpriced, poor quality street cameras. Please GOB, PM, take this crime wave seriously. The next victim can be anyone of us. No one is bullet proof.
You right Jose, we big fish do not want the crime situation in Belize to stop, see we use this as an intimidation factor on the people of course we can easily stop this mess if we wanted to and we know that we would have the mass of the people supporting us if we ever wanted to stop this but you see keeping the crime activities this high keeps the people at bay so we can do what we wish to do and there will be no protest and if there is protest we can just call out some of our thugs to shoot up some and no one will know that it is our doings and the people will be scared to ever try a protest again this is an example of how we run this country. http://archive.channel5belize.com/archives/35533 and Belmopan is really too far for most people to go protest, so as long as we keep a tight rope on the city we will stay in control around here and be able to continue on our wealth building legacy scheme.
