Will a cop face a murder charge for shooting Steven Buckley?
After a numerous adjournments, a date has finally been set for the preliminary inquiry to determine whether Dennis Lopez, a Police Inspector, will stand trial for the Attempted Murder of Stephen Buckley. Lopez received full disclosure today and his Preliminary Inquiry was set for March eighth before Chief Magistrate Margaret Gabb McKenzie. Buckley has been present for every adjournment since the almost fatal incident changed his life. The shooting took place on the night of April twenty-eighth, 2010, when Inspector Lopez was a part of the police department’s ironically named Restore Confidence Operation. Buckley was along with his employer and friend, Marlon Myers, when they were pulled over near the Cumberbatch field in the Yarborough area. Lopez allegedly ordered them to exit the vehicle, but opened fire on them before they could comply. Buckley was hit twice to the head and he has not fully recovered. Lopez was charged a month after the incident and was initially remanded to the Belize Central Prison. He was eventually granted bail of five thousand dollars at the Supreme Court on June seventh.
While this officer should never again be allowed near a gun or to patrol the hood, I think he is being overcharged & hope this is a strategy to get him to plea to maiming.
we all know the outcome of this case already but just for jokes we will follow it .
What do u mean… ” will he be charged for attempted murder? ” of course he should be charged for murder! He almost killed this poor man here! What, because he’s an incompetent and very clumsy police officer, you think he should not? All the facts surrounding this case makes it quite obvious that Buckley was targeted by the shooter. You can miss fire a shot gun twice, who do he think he’s talking to here? A bunch of kids? He is guilty of attempted murder of Buckley! Come on jury this bastard needs to be convicted and given life behind bars for disrupting this man’s life for the worst! Its not rocket science jurors … he stepped out his police car took aim at Buckley and his associate then fired at BOTH men! Thus the reason for TWO shots! He intended to kill both men but somehow caught Buckley twice! Oooooohhhhh this makes me spool mad….throw his @$$ in jail already! !!
in this case i believe that dickie suppose to help this man buckley for a worthy cause, since he seems to be good to outrun the dpp let him help this family guy for the sake of his family and damage life and health. now is the time that dickie suppose to help but maybe the money can’t be paid by buckley might be a disdavantage of having dickie fight for his case. this it the time also that Mrs. yolanda should help acquire a good lawyer for buckely with fundraising. if not, this S.O.B will walk free and keep being a police as long as he live since they seem to be untouchables.
How can he be charged for murder if Mr Buckley hasn’t succumbed to his injuries?
It has to be a charge of attempted murder.
That’s what happens when we have an inadequate security system.
Give an untrained individual a gun and he will wreak havoc.
I have said it many times with proper benefits and wages we have to target qualified individuals for our law enforcement.
Then we will have people with associates degrees and better taking up post in a police and BDF that is deperately in need of a complete make over.
Mr Prime Minister and Minister of Police are we listening?
This police officer is a mad man, don’t give him a police job any more he should go clean streets and sweat his forhead to feed family if he have any.
Why is everyone blindly accepting that the policeman is wrong. He represents the law. If he orders you to do something you must comply immediately. Your innocence will guarantee your freedom unless you have something to hide. Let him have his day in court. If he is wrong let him suffer the consequences like anyone else. If not let him return to his duties. Furthermore, Dickie has a right to defend anyone as did Dean in his legal profession.
Will Mr Buckley be compensated by GOB for his injuries?Hello Mr Barrow and associates?
Prince Michael talks pure nonsense, poor thing just talk without thinking, how the hell can you charge someone for MURDER when no one is dead, and to all those others that talks bad about Police be informed that you are innocent until proven guilty, that is our Constitution and no one can change that, it was an unfortunate incident that can happen to anyone so let us all stop talking nonsense and grow up and let the case goes to trial and see what happens
This guy shoots first and asks questions last who does he think he is clint eastwood? Belize Police really need more way much more firearm training..
what a dumb @$$ I hope shooting this man was worth it. Big damn fool. People need to start using that thing in between your ears called a brain.
