Rotary receives grant for education
The Rotary Club of San Ignacio has received funding to promote teacher education nationwide. The project, which builds on a successful pilot programme initiated in 2003, aims to train three hundred and sixty “master teachers” in math, science and language arts over the next three years. Those teachers will then impart skills to an additional two thousand, five hundred of their colleagues. Initial technical aid for the project will come from Canadian educators, and includes donated computers and online curriculum support. Financing, courtesy of Rotarians from Alberta, Canada, will total around three hundred and sixty thousand U.S. dollars and comes under the Rotary Foundation’s 3-H grant programme, the three H’s standing for Health, Hunger and Humanity.
