Driver says gunmen jacked his container truck
The theft of cargo trucks is common along Guatemalan highways but tonight a Belizean driver has reported that’s exactly what happened to him Monday night on the Coastal Road. Twenty-one year old Edson Moh told police that on the instructions of his boss, Moises Manzur, he drove his container truck to the Belize City Port, loaded his cargo and headed south towards Dangriga. But Moh says that during the trip up the Western Highway he received a phone call telling him to use the Coastal Road. Moh says he had only travelled a mile along the dusty road when he was stopped by seven armed Hispanic men in three vehicles who then proceeded to steal his rig and left him on the roadside. The truck and its cargo have not been seen since. Investigations into the incident continue as police are especially keen on finding out who told Moh to use the Coastal Road.
