Musicians, government join to promote peace

Story PictureViolence is increasingly coming to dominate our society and while everyone has a different idea how we can solve the problem, it is also clear that only a unified approach will succeed. With that in mind, this weekend artists and musicians will team up with government officials and Youth for the Future to promote peace. According to organiser, Erwin X, Jamaican singer Turbulence will headline the show and will also take time to visit Hattieville Prison to share his message with inmates.

Erwin X, Organize, Unity is a Must Concert
“The show name Unity is a Must because we want send out wah strong message to Belizeans that we need fi stop the violence, we need fi end the war and we need fi find a righteous and more positive way to live together as wah people. Youth for the Future is organizing a truce, calling on the rival factions in Belize to put the gun down, put the violence down and pick up the peace, promote the oneness, let us live in peace and stop rest in peace.”

Turbulence, Music Artist
“Music on a whole is life and like great Bob Marley said, when the music hit you, you feel no pain and once you can transport the message, because the music is like a vehicle once you can transport the message and the music to all over the world, people will come together, I believe so.”

Janelle Chanona
“What message would you give personally to the people who—I know everybody might not be able to make it to the concert but what would you like to tell them now?

Turbulence
“Stay focused, set your goals and reach for them and love is only answer. Perseverance, determination and never let anybody tell you, you can’t make it and you work and do this and do that. Just reach for your goals.”

Anthony Michael, Belize City Deputy Mayor
“As a black person myself and Turbulence, everybody out here it’s just black people out here is just black people killing black people. Enough is enough. It’s time, if you want to go into their term in the streets, let’s be conscious, let’s stop the violence, it’s just black young people who are supposed to be the future of our country, leading, taking up responsible role, both as a brother, both as son, both as a father, to put down these things. We live in a beautiful country, we live in a beautiful world.”

Nigel Petillo, Synergy Promotions
“At Cayo, Cahal Pech, twenty dollars. Why we have it so cheap? Because we need the message to get out. We want to make sure that everybody involved in this. It’s a very affordable rate. At Club Next Saturday night it’s going to be twenty-five dollars before twelve, thirty dollars after twelve o’clock. Again it’s very cheap, you get the full package, the full show. It’s all about righteousness and consciousness.”

Following Friday night’s concert in Cayo, on Saturday the Unity is a Must crew will hold a motorcade through the streets of Belize City which will end at Bird’s Isle where Youth for the Future will attempt to sign a peace accord with street leaders. Tickets for the shows are available at Brick City in San Ignacio, I-T express, Express Designs, Tambran Music Store and DJ Richie in Belize City.
