New members appointed to Broadcasting Authority
The growth of Belize’s electronic media, both in number and influence, has been one of the most significant changes to affect the country over the last twenty years. But government’s role in shaping that change has been inconsistent at best. Today, with the appointment of a new Belize Broadcasting Authority, Minister of Broadcasting Dean Barrow may be hoping to catch up with two decades of rapid technological and societal change. New chairman of the B.B.A. is Louis “Tony” Leslie with members Audrey Wallace, John Avery, Cynthia Henry, Maureen Utsman, Martha Eiley, Jules Vasquez and Pete Lizarraga. Vasquez and Lizarraga represent the interests of over-the-air broadcasters and cable operators respectively while Avery sits on behalf of the Public Utilities Commission.
