San Pedro band releases new album

From north to south, Belizean musicians keep cranking out the music … tonight News Five’s Marion Ali profiles one island group claiming to be the Kings of Belizean Reggaeton.

Three years ago these childhood friends got together and formed a Reggaeton recording group called D.N.A. using the initials of their first names. Today, the San Pedro-based group has released a new C.D. entitled D.N.A. Extreme. Producer and Co-Composer of the group, Alex Noralez, says their latest effort has a positive message.

“We hope to inspire other young talented Belizeans to get their talents together and stop all the shooting and all the violence that is plaguing our country. We talk a lot about love. That’s our message, a lot of love, a lot of personal experiences with our life and we try to stay away as much as possible to get away from the politics and all of that kind thing, of the blaming game and so forth.”

And while their speciality is Reggaeton, the CD’s eighteen new tracks show that the group has talent in other genres.

“We try to make the combinations, like there’s the Cumbia with Reggaeton, which we call Cumbiaton. Also we have different flavours on this album for everyone to enjoy, the young and the older.”

“I know you said the name D.N.A. represents the initials of your three names, but is there a D.N.A. in D.N.A?”

“Yeah, D.N.A. represents music in our blood, from young we had music in our blood and that’s why we keep on playing.”

David Aguilar
“We all come from a background of musicians, local artists. For example, his dad used to be in a band for many years and he still plays in a band. My dad Sir Oscar Aguilar, he’s very well known in San Pedro as a local talented singer.”
