Police seek two in hold up of Belize Unit Trust…
The Belize Unit Trust on Central American Boulevard was the target of thieves during an afternoon hold-up on Tuesday. Around two-thirty, three youths armed with guns and one wearing a mask, entered the business and held the security guard, two tellers, and nine customers at gunpoint. The men then went behind the counter and cleaned out the cash drawers of over ten thousand dollars before fleeing the scene. Today Belize Unit Trust C.E.O. Corine Fuller told News Five that while the incident was frightening, unit holders need not be fearful of their money or their safety.

“I want our unit holders to know that in no way what happened yesterday has affected their deposits in anyway because you know we have insurance and things like that for your unit holders deposits. So in no way will that affect their deposits with us. And as you can see we still have customers in here today as well. That hasn’t dampened our business. It has shaken us up quite a bit, that is not a very pleasant experience for anybody to go through and so it was very unpleasant. But thankfully no one was hurt.”
“I don’t think yesterday even if the security guard had a weapon if it would have made any difference. We had three people with guns, so I don’t know how having a weapon would make any difference but we do have security advisors who will be telling us exactly more we can do to reduce the chance of this happening again.”
