Fuel prices jitter like a bug

Motorists are experiencing slight gas relief at the pumps this weekend after several consecutive price hikes over the past three months.  The cost per gallon of premium and regular gasoline was negligibly reduced at midnight on Thursday by eleven cents, putting the new prices at eleven-forty and eleven-thirteen respectively. Diesel has seen a six cent decrease on the cost per gallon and is now selling for ten dollars and fifty-four cents.  The discount however, will be short lived as prices are once again expected to go up by Sunday.  While those figures have not yet been released it is believed that the increase will be considerably more than the current reduction in prices.

WE NEED TO BUILD A REFINERY……………

WE NEED TO BUILD A REFINERY……………

OR we will always be in this position……

WE DON’T EXPORT ORANGES…….. TO IMPORT ORANGE JUICE……………….build a refinery today.

Too much lies from dean barrow, lett the price go. We put him there so let’s take wat he is doing. I don’t care so let the price go up

I have bween watching fuel prices in Belize for quite some time now. I live in Canada which has enouigh oil to support the North American continent for an undertiminant amount of time. We are currently paying $9.59 Belizean dollars for regular gas. Diesel is a few pennies less a gallon.

Bottom line is a refinery will not help because the world oil proices are what drive the cost to consumers. Do you thionk the owners will take a drop in profits (especially if the taxes continue to be increased) by selling to Belizeans compared to getting higher profits from the rest of the globe?

Also, I believe the majority share holders of BNE are not Belizean, so why would there be a patriotic reason to sell at a lower price to the locals? If a refinery is built, it would be owned by a company outside of Belize. It is all about the mighty buck!

The REFINERY SHOULD BE BUILT BY THE GOVERNMENT WITH STRICT LAWS IN PLACE TO PROVIDE cheap GAS and other petroleum products FOR THE PEOPLE OF BELIZE.

THE NATURAL RESOURCES BELONG TO THE ENTIRE NATION………not a small group of people.

And whats the bigger problem is that we are still a common wealth of U.K. and Nigeria has full control of their oil refinery because they are not part of the common wealth of U.K. for years now. All of the elite people in power will remain in power unless we stand up and do something about it.

DappaBZ – Nigeria has one of the most corrupt Government on the planet, and the Commonwealth doesn’t want that country in its ranks, partly because of that, and also it’s terrible human rights reputation. if you look at the majority of Commonwealth countries, they are much more civilised than some of their neighbours who aren’t members. Belize, corrupt & crime ridden that it is is still a much better country to live in than Nigeria or Zimbabwe, Iran, Iraq, North Korea, Libya, Bahrain and a whole host of countries that are led by despots and corrupt regimes.

Yes, the people need to generate the changes and remove the ‘elite’, corrupt politicians in power, but they have control of the Armies, Police & the treasury. and can afford to use them against the people, and the other option – voting them out, only has them replaced by their friends & cronies in another party (PUDP in Belize), so the people aren’t better off in the end!

    Daveyt……….I AGREE WITH YOU……..100%

We have more DEMOCRACY than all those places,

WE JUST NEED TO EXERCISE IT……..MAKE IT STRONGER.

    I understand. @ daveyt

  9. DappaBZ says:

Seems like based on your statement daveyt, there is no hope at all unless we have a war but given the population is so small, whats the odds of Guatemala taking advantage and ceding the country to Guatemala. *** sad ***

The best solution is an ethanol plant to convert Belizian sugarcane to ethanol. Brazil does it and sells it’s oil.

What happens when the oil runs out in 20 years or so??? Sugarcane has been growing in Belize for over 100 years and could for another 100 years.
