America’s Most Wanted criminal found in Belize

Story PictureIn Belize, one of the major outlets to report crime is Crime Stoppers. But in the United States, information about criminals on the lam is spread around through the popular televised show Americas Most Wanted. Well, one of the US most sought after criminals in recent history was found in Belize. Derrick Yancey, a former sheriff’s deputy, is accused of double homicide of his wife forty-four year old Linda Yancey and twenty year old Marcial Cax Puluc. Initially, Yancey claimed that Puluc, a Guatemalan immigrant, shot his wife, and he in turn shot Puluc in self defense. After being placed under a U.S. one hundred and fifty thousand dollars bond, he removed his ankle monitor on April fourth, boarded a Greyhound bus and disappeared. According to the Deputy Officer in Charge of the Punta Gorda Police Formation, Inspector Andres Makin, Yancey was caught after two Saturday afternoon at a P.G. bar known as the Upstairs Lounge.

Inspector Andres Makin, Deputy O.C., Punta Gorda Police
“A fugitive from the United States that was seen in our area, Punta Gorda town. And based on the information, what we did, we conducted an investigation that led us to the capture of the said fugitive seen, Mister Derrick Yancey at one of the business establishments on Main Street in Punta Gorda Town. As a result, he was detained at the Punta Gorda Town police station, after which he was escorted Sunday to Belize City now where he is presently in detention noh. And I believe that relevant arrangement is being made for him to transported back to the United States. Mister Yancey is said to have committed a double murder in the United States and he was on the run and somehow or the other, he managed to get away from the United States and he ended up in Punta Gorda. Basically he has already been captured and he is now in custody and a flight away from being taken back to the United States.”

Jose Sanchez
“Mister Yancey is a former sheriff’s deputy in the count in the U.S and knows how to use a gun. Did you have any problems apprehending him or did he come easily—did he just give up?”

Inspector Andres Makin
“It was an arrest without no resistance. He did not resist any at all. We had his photograph in our possession and upon identifying ourselves, he just handed over himself. There was no resistance in his arrest.”

As soon as travel arrangements are made, Yancey is expected to be flown back to the United States to face the double murder charges.
