Court settles argument within Citrus Growers Association

There is never a dull moment or even a quiet one in the citrus valley. This Saturday, all is set for another special general meeting which is expected to be as contentious and rambunctious as others in the past. Back in February, the Citrus Growers Committee of Management did not allow forty or so citrus growers to attend the annual membership meeting of the C.G.A. because they were lagging behind in membership dues. Well five parties: William Bowman II, Dwight Montero, San Miguel Ltd, Valley Orchard Ltd and Mullins River Holdings went to court to seek an injunction in light of Saturday’s special meeting. The matter was heard before Justice Minnet Hafiz and the court granted the injunction, which paves the way for the five to be able to attend the proceedings. It’s an important decision, because they will also be able to vote and likely make a difference in decisions to be taken on Saturday or any other meeting until the matter is heard in court.  The injunction also restrains the C.G.A. from denying rights and privileges to the growers. In a release late this evening, the Belize Citrus says that the injunction allows growers who have not resigned from the C.G.A., but who have stopped paying the illegal cess to attend and participate fully in the meeting.
