The trial against alleged customs burglars underway
The case of two of four men accused of burglarizing the customs excise building on Ceasar Ridge in September 2009 came up in court today. But before the trial could start, Magistrate Emmerson Banner had to deal with two sureties for one of the accused who cannot be located to stand trial. Brian Young got Supreme Court bail in October 2009 and is believed to have fled the country. Young’s father, Carlton is seventy one year old and his uncle, Hugh Welch, who is eighty years old, were both detained and brought before the magistrate. They were ordered to pay the fine but could only come up with two thousand dollars each. The elderly men were given an extension to pay up the remaining two thousand dollars by May twenty-seventh and then allowed to leave the court.
Kendis Flowers is the other person on trial for aggravated burglary. The D.P.P. has withdrawn charges from Dario Cruickshank and Dion Swift Gentle. The four were accused of entering the building, while nothing was stolen there was an exchange of gunfire with the custom’s security guards. Brian was allegedly found hiding in on of the bathrooms while Flowers was reportedly caught on Ceasar Ridge Road. He was allegedly found with an AKA 47 machine gun. Three witnesses took the stand and the trial was adjourned for May, twenty-seventh.
How can these simpletons get their hands on a rifle such as the AKA-47? It is amazing how easy it is to buy guns in Belize.
What happened to the GUN LAW PM, and how long more must we wait for it to actually play an important role in convictions today. This idiot just might walk out of the court room a free man.
Found with an AK-47? 10yrs minimum! Throw this fool away. This could have turned ugly fast.
Anyone so brazen as to use an assault rifle should be locked up for 10 years minimum!
In Florida commit a crime with a gun 10 years, fire the gun and no one hurt and get 20 yrs, fire the gun and hurt someone and get life! We need tougher jail terms for these fools!
Flight is an admission of guilt. The people who put up their property as collateral for bail have to face penalties. Even though no one wants to see old people out on the streets, at some point we have to allow our children & grandchildren to take responsibility for their criminal behavior..
MADDY ….What happened to the gun laws? Honey haven’t you heard? Criminals do not give a ratts @$$ about the law, it is already illegal to rob and kill people what makes you think that the draconian gun laws will all of a sudden make a criminal say oh no oh my gosh it is illegal for me to own an AK47 so I will obey that gun law and find another way to kill n rob people or go straight..
The only people draconian gun laws affect is the law abiding, IF NOT ASK THE MEXICAN PEOPLE WHAT THEIR DRACONIAN GUN LAWS HAVE DONE TO THEM, then you will say but the guns come from the US….WELL the US is right across the border but you dont see the criminals !@#$%^& with TEXANS the way they do with the Mexican citizen because Texans will unleash a barrage on them.
