Gang Suppression Unit finds weed stashes

The Gang Suppression Unit was busy over the Easter holidays; they did not pull in any high powered weapons, but they found a whole lot of marijuana when they conducted searches in the Hattieville area. The biggest bust came on Sunday morning when the G.S.U. executed a search warrant at the Dollar Bank Road residence of George Street Gang member, Dion Arnold. Nothing incriminating was found at his house, but in an adjacent property with overgrown bushes, the officers found a duffel bag with eight parcels of compressed cannabis and a smaller travel bag with six parcels; all wrapped in brown tape. The drugs weigh a total of one hundred and thirty-seven pounds and have a street value of twenty-seven thousand, four hundred Belize dollars. Since the marijuana was not found on Arnold’s property it was labeled as found property and police have information suggesting that it belongs to the George Street Gang.  It is also believed that the drugs are smuggled from Guatemala to be peddled in Belize City.

On Monday morning, the G.S.U. made another significant discovery near mile seventeen and a half on the Western Highway. About a quarter mile from the main road, the officers found a marijuana field with one thousand plants between four inches and five feet in height. The plants were uprooted and the entire field was torched. In the area, there were also two wells for irrigation purposes and a spray pump. During the same operation, a search at an empty lot resulted in the discovery of a half pound of cannabis. The drugs were found adjacent to the residence of Wallace Rubio, who is allegedly the main courier for the Conch Shell Bay drug base in Belize City. Incidentally, when that search was carried out on Monday, Rubio was already in police custody. He was intercepted by G.S.U. personnel on Saturday at the traffic check point at Mile four on the Western Highway. Rubio was on a bus, carrying almost two pounds of weed inside a pot.  He has since been formally charged with Drug Trafficking.

I think the disturbing aspect of this story is that even weed is being imported! Have things gotten that bad that weed has to be imported too?

  2. Gustav says:

Drug cartels kill. No mercy for traffickers!

Great job guys. Wished it was more guns off they streets but still a great haul. Keep up the good work. I’m sure there are many grateful Belizeans like myself that are very much proud of you. Well done.

More rejects of that society. Lazy, lazy, lazy, not willing to work and make a decent living like the rest of the working class, want easy money, easy life.
Don’t spare them the rod or the bullet, one can appreciate such justice.

Haven’t u been living in Belize. Weed has been imported into Belize for a very long time. It is because the more potent weed which fetches higher prices for these criminals is grown outside of Belize in Guatemala/Honduras etc. Some of these boys even import marijuana from US nad Europe and believe it or not even from places like the Kush Mountains in Afghanistan because they know that they will get more money for less product. Even the Colombian coke runners pay these boys with potent marijuana and guns for the gas they provide and safe passage of coke thru Belize.

For some reason or the other the police seem to be tackling the symptoms of the problem and not the problem itself; where are the big fish involved in all this?

Great job G.S.U. and whoever else is involved with these raids however we still need to get the guns as there are lots of guns out there. Remember, My Legacy B 4 My People.

  9. Disgusted! says:

Great job GSU, go after the thugs you know & if enough of them get knocked off, they will spill the beans on their source because many of these low level guys have children to feed & the big boss will not take care of their families while they are in jail.

Now Rubio, I hate to pick on a brother’s appearance or sense of style but you look like a police magnet, if you’re supposed to be slick, shouldn’t you be able to slip under the radar?
