Three men arrested for separate firearm offences
Three men have been arrested and charged for firearm offences in separate cases. In Belize City, officers on patrol on Plues Street say around six on Thursday evening, they stopped twenty-one year old Jason Gillett and found a thirty-eight special revolver and four live rounds of accompanying ammunition in the right front pocket of his jeans. Gillett was immediately arrested and has since been charged with having an unlicensed gun and ammunition.
Meanwhile in Belmopan, the expression, “I got shotgun”, referring to the front passenger seat, took on a very literal meaning on Wednesday evening. Investigators say they were called out to Santa Maria Street where they saw a Geo Prism in the drain. But when they looked into the vehicle they found twenty-six year old technician Macario Scott behind the wheel and a sixteen gauge shotgun in the seat beside him. When police searched Scott, they also found two sixteen gage cartridges on him. The Garbutt Street resident holds a license for the weapon but he has been charged with Possession of a Firearm while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
An Ontario resident is also detained tonight all because of a BB gun. According to police, during a special operation in the village, they seized a black four point five calibre air pistol and detained the owner, twenty-three year old Jamil Chavarria. Investigators say the weapon will be sent to the ballistics expert to determine if the gun is capable of firing twenty-two round ammunition as in addition to pellets, police found one of those bullets in the house. Chavarria is currently employed as a security guard but sources tell News Five, he was accused of shooting at the police in a previous incident.
