Cayo Police say there was no brutality during arrest

Unfortunately, the complaints about the cops are still coming in.  On Friday, April fifteenth, we showed you the Clarke Family of Red Creek in Cayo who said that they were innocent victims of police brutality. The family members, Rosaline Clarke, Emma Clarke and Leonard Pandy said that on April thirteenth, about seven police officers stormed their house after showing them the finger and injured them. Today, the Cayo police gave a different side to the story.

Sr. Supt. Louise Willis, O.C., Cayo Formation

Louise Willis

“About five-thirty p.m. on the thirteenth of April 2011, police officers were passing the home of one Leonard Pandy upon passing the yard Pandy uttered certain threatening words to the police officers. The officers stopped and proceeded to arrest him, while putting on the handcuffs on Pandy other came up who is Ms Emma Pandy and she came up and told the police officers they will not arrest her son as a result Pandy freed himself and ran inside his room and police officers pursued him and arrested him. Whilst arresting him the mother, the grandmother pursed the officers and while arresting him the officers were obstructed and during the attempt to re-arrest Pandy, police officers were injured. One police officer received injuries to his hand he got to cuts and ten stitches, a stab and a cut;  one police officer got a bite to his hand the other police officer got injured to his face so again the five police officers were injured. Pandy also received injuries to his head and his body. Pandy was taken to the hospital and  was subsequently treated and released. He was taken to the police station and charged along with his mother and grandmother. They were charged for obstruction and the harm caused to the police officers.”

Andrea Polanco

“They’re saying that police exercised extreme force on the family.”

Sr. Supt. Louise Willis

“I don’t want to go on the facts or the evidence as it is presented as it goes before the courts but as I’ve said before those are the facts.”

Andrea Polanco

“Leonard made a claim, he alleged that the police actually took him to the Hospital road and that’s where they brutalized him, and they tortured him. The police care to comment on that?”

Sr. Supt. Louise Willis

“Again I have had no such complaints from Leonard I know he was taken immediately to the hospital when he came from the house, he was treated for the injury that he received.”

As mentioned in the interview, the matter is still before the courts.

It seems like the criminals and the police are always in an ongoing competition of giving Belize a very, very bad reputation. It’s hard to tell the criminals from the police in many instances.

  2. islander says:

Yup, he cusses and threatens the Police, then when the Police try to arrest him you get to really see the picture of his upbrining… His mom and grandmom attack the cops showing that idiocy has no age and that they are the two responsible for this idiot growing up to be who he is.

  3. SYR says:

we are not getting the true story about what happened here, how can 5 policemen be injured by an old lady her grandson n daughter. Knowing how these officers are that story is unbelievable. We need facts. Is it so hard to cuff one man?? Its really difficult to say who are d real criminals when police and civilians operate like this….

  4. B Groovy says:

Fish in the aquarium play dead when they see Pandy……da fool da wa thief……

There are times when the police are truthful and right in terms of executing their duties. But, I need some serious convincing and the reason I say that is because I have witnessed too many escalations by the police when there is no need to. Perhaps, this is because of the caliber of people being recruited and their training is inadequate. We need police but we do not need police who think they are above the law and can conduct due process right there and then! I could go on and on about what I have witnessed but that would take up too much space. I haved witnessed civilians speaking to police in a measured and calm tone only to have the officer(s) respond and behave as if they have been physically attacked! And some of them have little or no personal hygiene to be talking into people’s faces!

PLEASE DON’T WASTE TIME LISTENING THE CLARKE FAMILY, PLEASE, IF YOU PEOPLE WOULD ONLY KNOW WHO THEY ARE, MEIN!!! YOU WOULDN’T FEEL SORRY FOR THEM, MADAS THE POLICE ARE ONLY DOING THERE JOB, I AM TIRED OF THE MEDIA PEOPLE GIVING THESE CRIMINALS TOO MUCH ATTENTION, IN CAYO AND BELIZE, I AM SURE POLICE WILL NOT HARASS ANYBODY IF YOU ARE NOT INVOLVE IN CRIMINAL ACTIVITY.
THESE PEOPLE FROM RED CREEK ARE THE WORSE OF THE WORSE, SOMETIMES I WISH THEY WOULD JUST DISSAPEAR, THEY ARE THIEVES, RAPIST MURDERES WALKING FREE MAKING THE LIVES OF THE LAW ABIDING PEOPLE MISERABLE.
I AM SURE WITHOUT THESE PEOPLE OUR TOWN WOULD BE FAR MUCH BETTER.

  7. Somewhere in time says:

The police over did themselves. They should behave in a manner becoming of a police officer. I was at a social event where one of the officers involved in this incident was invited last week. And he freely talked about it. They took the young man to the Bullet Tree Road and beat him until they satisfied themselves. Why don’t they mention that to the media? They have the brawn to talk about it openly and brag. They can’t even be discreet. I am not justifying the young man’s actions, but the police should enforce and OBEY the law. How do they expect the citizens to respect them otherwise?

  8. Revolution says:

The only problem with this story is that one of the officers gun did not go off by mistake and kill this entire family for the betterment of the Cayo community. They are all a bunch of thiefs and soon to be in not already murderers. From the Grandmother down should be put to rest, these people are a discrace to Cayo. They are criminals, all of them…every single one of the old lady children and grandchildren. They should all be put down like stray dogs, str8 like that. They should be thankful to be alive after all the harm, pain and grief that they have caused the Cayo community.

  9. unbiased says:

only by the looks of this fellow we can see he is a criminal, and it disgusts me to see that the mother and grandmother defend him when they clearly know he is a big thief come on people stop tolerating your child laziness send him to work.

  10. Elgin Martinez says:

If this is what the Police Officers got to do to deal with these criminals then so be it .

  11. Disgusted! says:

Louise Willis is simply doing what police officers are sworn to do……….COVER EACH OTHER’S B$ AND CORRUPTION!!!…….and by the way….#%$(# you need to go back to grammar and P.R. school. You’re a major embarrassment to the already embarrassing police dept of Belize!!!! uuuuuggh!!!

  12. BZNinCALI says:

I’m thinking Granny tripped her spawn’s spawn when he ran into her room, he fell on her & his Mom & the Officers fell on them, batons & accidentally hit them with their batons as they hurried to their feet. Stop whining, why are so many of these people’s neighbors describing them as hoodlums?

  13. tim says:

is there a way we can video tape some of these occurrence and post it on social media, or even use it as evidence in court?? hidden camera against the police department?
