Hit & run victim killed on spot

There was an accident on the Northern Highway in the Corozal District on Thursday night. When police arrived on the scene they found the body of man which appeared mangled from a recent traffic mishap.  The details are still sketchy and the victim has only been identified by his surname which is Canto. News Five spoke to Superintendent Miguel Guzman who was on the scene.

“Shortly after midnight, the police responded to a road traffic accident on the Northern Highway; that is in the proximity of Mira Montes Bar where on arrival [we] saw this individual suffering from facial and head injuries and lying in a pool of blood—appearing to be dead. Also beside him there was a beach cruise bicycle with its rear wheel extensively damage. The vehicle that was apparently in the incident had fled from the scene.”

“So this gentleman was clearly a victim of hit and run?”

“Yes that is correct.”

“No clues as yet as to what sort of vehicle fled the scene? No witnesses?”

“We have been following every possible leads. All we know is that it is a pickup truck, but we are not sure about the color or the license plate. We don’t know his age; we don’t know his date of birth. We have made contact with his family in San Antonio, Cayo District and they are on their way to Coroszal to give us those details.”
