2 Belizean members of Mexican Cartel behind bars in Cancun

Two Belizeans are safely behind bars in Mexico. Wilton Osvaldo Lopez and Walter Antonio Lopez were arraigned in the Fifth District Court in Cancun on Friday after they were captured a week earlier. They are facing charges along with Mexican nationals Moisés Martínez Sánchez and Ana Isabel Rodriguez Zetina for carrying a firearm and possession of cartridges for the exclusive use of the Army, Navy and Air Force as well as conspiracy. All four were detained during a raid on April twenty-first in Region 208 of Cancun. They were handed over to federal prosecutors and had been in custody for seventy-two hours before being formally charged. Both the Mexican and Belizean nationals will remain in prison while the case is being prosecuted. During the search, officers found a point thirty-eight caliber pistol along with two magazines and corresponding cartridges, a nine millimeter pistol with cartridges and thirty rounds of seven point six-two caliber ammunition, which are used in AK-47 assault rifles. The accused persons are believed to be associated with a powerful cartel known as Los Pelones. Following their arrest, the Lopez brothers spun a tale that they were forced to work as drug handlers for the cartel after their mother and sister were abducted. That claim was quickly set aside when the cops found pictures of them posing with an AK-47 rifle. They also said that six other cartel members were at the house where they were detained, but they escaped in a Volkswagen Jetta car.

Time in a Mexican jail may make them appreciate their freedom if they ever see it again They may be the most law abiding citizens in the country after doing their time after they are convicted.

  2. MADDYVANDIJKDEREALISTA says:

Let them do their time in the Mexican prison, before deportation. Nobody wants to be a prisoner in Mexico; perhaps this will give them the chance to appreciate their freedom they had in Belize.

  3. Gustav says:

Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time.

These guys will spend years in jail even before thier case is heard. The backlog in the Mexican justice system is so so so long that they will spend years just waiting for your case to be heard. They will not see freedom for a very very…very long time. Over 5 years ago there was a raid in the waters in front of ambergris caye and a couple of locals were caught by Mexican authorities, thier case is yet to be heard.

If they get out of that jail Belize need to charge them here as well. Lock their @$$#$ up for this. Out being gangsters in another country. Charge them to the full extent. The Mexican got plenty evidence I am sure. They no intimidate the FEDERALES! The US always charge them people who committ crime in another country. That’s why they coming for the child molesters so much. They going all over the world and bringing back fugitives to lock up.

  7. CEO says:

No swift trial behind closed doors and release for them like what we did for the mexican in the free zone. He too had a cocamaimy story. Take note Ms. Chief Magistrate and others!

keep them locked up! I trust that they will come out of there fluent in Spanish if they were not before.

Belizeans who comit these types of crimes out side of Belize should be delared “persona non grata” and gailed upon arrival. This would also help the crime situation in Belize. Let them work on a farm and grow food for the country and them selves. By the time they would be released they would have a purpose for life.
