Social Security has new leadership
And in news of more government appointments, media reports indicate that the new C.E.O. of the Social Security Board is none other than Merlene Bailey Martinez. Bailey Martinez was in the spotlight for many months last year as a member, then co-chair of the Commission of Inquiry into the Development Finance Corporation. Her legal advisor during these hearings, Lois Young, will be the board’s chairman. Young succeeds attorney Michel Chebat and Bailey Martinez replaces Dr. Louis Zabaneh. Zabaneh was appointed in September of last year but resigned last week. It should be noted that the S.S.B.’s public relations department could not confirm the new appointments although they’d been rumored since last week. Advertisements for the C.E.O. vacancy were published in this weekend’s newspapers. When contacted this evening Bailey Martinez said she would call back to confirm or deny but has yet to do so.
