Espat and Hyde now senior Deputy Leaders of P.U.P.

As we reported on Tuesday, the national executive of the People’s United Party met today at Independence Hall. Except or a few sparks that flew across the room, the executive approved the appointment of area representatives Mark Espat and Cordel Hyde as senior deputy leaders of the opposition party. Both were not present for the meeting but their appointment will now proceed before the national party council which will be meeting in the next few days.

Francis Fonseca of the Freetown division was also elevated to senior deputy party leader; the three being senior parliamentarians. Florencio Marin has been appointed as parliamentary liaison.  Mike Espat and Carolyn Trench Sandiford will continue to serve as deputy party leaders. So it means that the party did accept the resignation of former deputy Dan Silva.

The other big item on the agenda was the appointment of Jaime Briceno, businessman and brother of the party leader as a co-chair to Senator Eamon Courtenay as national campaign manager. Attorney at law, Rachel Montejo, has also taken up the post of Secretary General to oversee the functionality of the secretariat. As far as we are told, the changes are to bolster the campaign leading up to the municipal and general elections in 2012 and 2013, which the opposition intends to vigorously mount. The U.D.P. controls all municipal bodies and the super majority of the thirty-one seats in the House.

ONE THING I CAN SAY ABOUT THE ‘BLUE’S’ THEY KNOW HOW TO PULL IT TOGETHER WHEN IT COUNTS, NO MATTER HOW MUCH IN FIGHTING THEY DO.

I STILL THINK WE NEED SOME MORE NEW FACES IN THE POLITICAL ARENA(ON BOTH SIDES), FOLKS WITH MORAL COMPASSES AND GENUINE COMPASSION FOR THE OVERALL WELL BEING OF THE PEOPLE.

I am hoping that people understand that a true democracy needs pros and cons…supporters and detractors. The recent political scenarios shows that political parties fail to be accepting of a difference in opinions by even their own membership. If we as a country is to grow to maturity and make our mark in this region we must be respectful of varying ideas and not be vindictive. I’m of the opinion that Mark and Cordel has much to offer to our society, but as usual we tend to repress those who are outspoken and intolerant of our daily nonsense. Take your position gentlemen and let’s move forward for the development of our communities.

Jaime, Jorge, and Johnny Briceno. This family has taken over the PUP. Mark and Cordel will only stay there a while until things heat up again. The PUP is at its worst state in history, with with weak and undecisive leadership.

why is the opposition fighting when they did much worst under the PUP Johnny was Deputy PM and did nothing to fight against the corruption of the PUP and why now does he want to fight against the GOV come on Belizeans open ur eyes and see what the PUP is trying to do they want to get re-elected and they will end up doing the same or maybe even worse that what this present GOV is doing i think the PM is doing a great job in fighting for the people, they are always flaws even the Great Barack Obama has flaws that he needs to deal with that is true democracy when the people stand up and fight for their rights by doing so they show the GOV whichever political party it is theat they will not tolerate their behavior towards the Belizean People I think the Prime Minister deserves another term in GOV and u will see the many wonders being accomplished under the Dean Barrow Admin. Keep on fighting and correcting the wrongs Mr. PM Barrow
