Northern Highway accident cuts life short for 7 year old…

Story PictureWhile the primary school kids in Caye Caulker have fallen ill, the highways claimed the life of two individuals in separate traffic accidents over the weekend. On Sunday at three-thirty in the afternoon, three generations of the Marin family were caught in a brutal accident. It is believed that a tire blow out caused Genoveiva Marin of the Forensics Unit to lose control of her government issued Toyota Hilux. Genoveiva was accompanied by her mother Amparo, and her two daughters Carla and Lisa Jessie at the time of the incident. The family was returning from Corozal Town when they were flung from the vehicle. Seven year old Lisa Jessie was asleep in the back seat and was killed on impact. According to family members Genoveiva is still experiencing the shock of the loss of her child and they wished not to speak to the media at this time. Ladyville Police say that the investigation into the accident is still ongoing.

“Police visited an area near Biscayne Village near mile twenty-three and twenty-four on the Northern Highway where upon arrival the police observed a badly damaged Toyota Hilux. Also on the scene, was the lifeless body of a young female. Investigations reveal that the driver of this vehicle, accompanied by two other family members, was travelling from the direction of Orange Walk towards Ladyville village, when towards reaching between mile twenty-three and twenty-four, the vehicle overturned. All occupants were flung from the vehicle where this young female received injuries and died. Police investigation reveals that the vehicle was driven by Genoveiva Marin, the Chief Forensic at the Forensic Lab here in Ladyville. The vehicle is a government of Belize vehicle assigned to the Forensic Lab.”

“The investigation is still on. We are unable to ascertain what caused the accident at this time.”

“There is some talk that it might have been a blow out.”

“We cannot say for sure exactly what caused the accident at this time. The vehicle will be inspected by the mechanic.”

Genoveiva and her daughter Carla have been treated and released from Belize Medical Associates Hospital since their injuries have been classified as minor. However, sixty-six year old Amparo is still admitted in a serious condition. In addition to brain injury, Amparo has two broken bones in her neck along with a bruised heart and a bruised lung.
