Villager sentenced to eight years for attempted murder
Fifty-four year old Graciliano Coc, who was found guilty last week of the attempted murder of his cousin, thirty-eight year old Emiliano Pop, was sentenced to eight years in prison today by Justice Adolph Lucas in Dangriga Supreme Court. Coc, who was not represented by an attorney, did not offer any plea for mitigation. Crown Counsel Nadine Palacio represented the prosecution. The incident occurred on the afternoon of January first, 2007 in Maya Center Village. Pop was called into a yard by Coc who told Pop that he would kill him. Coc then made good on his threat by stabbing Pop in the abdomen, shoulder and buttocks. When Coc was detained by police he told them that he was drunk at the time and did not know what he was doing.
