P.U.P. northern caucus supports convention reforms …
In political news from across the aisle, rival factions of the Peoples’ United Party continue to campaign in advance of the national convention called to select a new leader. At a meeting of the P.U.P. Northern caucus today, representatives of seven out of the eight Corozal and Orange Walk constituencies met and endorsed a letter to party chairman Francis Fonseca in support of a proposal to expand the number of convention delegates and to publish the delegate list at least a week before the convention. This is the same request previously made by area reps Johnny Briceño, Mark Espat and Cordel Hyde. According to sources in today’s meeting, only one constituency—Corozal Southeast—was not in attendance. As to whether Briceño or Espat will emerge as the consensus candidate to challenge Francis Fonseca for the leadership, we are informed only that talks between the two men continue. The deadline for submitting nominations is Friday.
