Weekend event combines music and religion
You’ve probably seen the ads advertising an event for this weekend called Y.C. Belize and as I speak, participants are gathering at the City Centre. But if you haven’t decided whether to attend or if you are not sure what it even is, country coordinator, Pastor Jimmy Jones, stopped by our studios with an explanation.
Pastor Jimmy Jones, Country Coordinator, Y.C. Belize
“It’s a massive youth conference with various artists, seminars, concerts. It’s gonna just be a lot of activity, but it’s just really geared towards addressing the needs of youths in Belize. As we all know, here in Belize we are really struggling with gang violence, murder and it seems like a lot of hopelessness among the young people and we are hoping through this event to help address some of those issues. Now we are not an answer or a cure, but we want to be a part of the answer.”

“Is this denominational?”
Pastor Jimmy Jones
“It’s interdenominational. We’ll have Catholics, Baptists, Presbyterians, Pentecostal, non-denominational and hopefully many persons who don’t attend the church because we don’t want to go around the circle to keep addressing people only in the church, we really want to reach outside the four walls of the church.”
One of the biggest events for Y.C. Belize is a concert on Saturday featuring a number of bands and artists from at home and abroad. One of the headliners is a popular Jamaican dancehall artist turn gospel singer.

“We’re gonna have some Garifuna, some reggae, some Calypso. So if your hips giving you a little pain, you can come and just get a little workout Belizean style. Also, we have an alternative band called Every Other from Canada, it’s a little kinda like rock music and for those of you who are really reggae fans, we have Papa San again and he is going to light up the stage as usual.”

“I have an album coming out soon this year, a new single coming out next month, I mean, so we know we looking forward for some great things.”

“So it’s the oldies and some new ones that you are going to be performing?”
Papa San
“Yes, all the old albums and the new album, touching stuff from each and every project, so it’s gonna be a blessing. Belize is a place that I love to come a perform and minister the gospel of Christ, so basically when we come is just to minister the good through music, to bless people soul, to be a blessing to others. People can leave and feel refresh and get save, people get delivered, set free from different things and at the same time enjoy themselves too.”
Pastor Jimmy Jones
“It’s going to be a tremendous weekend. Don’t miss Y.C. Belize: Live for the King. It’s going to be tremendous.”
Papa San is planning to launch his new album “Higher Heights” at the concert. Registration fee for Y.C. Belize is twenty dollars. For your money you get an all access pass to the full weekend of activities, including Saturday’s concert.
