Owner of new operators says he is not a newcomer

While bus operators are upset about the zoning that will affect them in the west and north, at the eye of the storm is Sergio Chuc, a Cayo businessman. Chuc was given the road permit under his company West Line Bus Company Limited which will be operating the morning runs from Belize City to Benque Viejo and returning in the afternoons to Belize City. We spoke with Chuc via phone and he says he is not a ‘new comer’ and expects to provide good service to commuters come Sunday.

“Andrea, I’ve been in the bus business for the last eight years. I don’t operate one, two, three, four or five bus I operate a lot more buses than that. On a continuous basis I keep purchasing bus and improving my fleet. Of course in preparation for this I made a substantial investment in the last couple of weeks. I could give you clear examples where in the past four or five years we’ve taken over, my company has taken over bus runs that were not feasible for other companies and we made them feasible because we know exactly what we are doing and I think the transport department saw that and gave us the opportunity to provide a better service in the Western route. That’s precisely what we are going to do. We are getting better equipment, we have strict policies in our company and come Sunday, Monday whoever rides our bus from Belize City to Cayo will notice the difference in service and the quality of the presence we have out there.”

Chuc says that his bus line is legal and he went through the proper channels to obtain his road service permit. While he is admittedly a strong supporter of the government, he doesn’t believe he was given any leverage to acquire his runs.
