Orange Walk Technical High School now Elodio Aragon High
The Orange Walk Technical High School is getting a new name; we caught up with this piece of news on Facebook, were we found that emotions were running high among those not enthused with the change. The Chairlady of the Board of Management circulated a letter to that effect today saying the instructions had come from the Ministry of Education. The school is to be re-named the Elodio Aragon Technical High School beginning the new school year in September. The letter was sent to parents and is signed off by the chairlady Enid Morales, who is also a town councilor. Aragon is a former minister of Education for the period 1993-98 and hails from Orange Walk. He is also the current chairman of NEMO for Orange Walk. Many of the town’s folks on Facebook are not content with what they believe is the politicizing of the name of the school. But we note that it is customary for the current government to give public buildings the names of UDP politicians: such as the Esquivel Telecommunications, Philip Goldson International Airport and more recently the Michael Finnegan Market.
What is the big deal. When the other party gets in govt. just change the name again. Problem solved.

Put all the names of the politicians u want when the PUP takes place in sure they will gladly remove it. elodio aragon has contributed nothing to that high school. Soon we wont have Belize City but Dean barow city.
Poor UDP’s their best solution to not building ANY infrastructures is to name OLD building by old dinasours who contributed nothing to society. What a pity. Yeah its true. Jst remove then name when the other government comes in.

Imagine naming an educational after a person who along with his son manage a bar, club where minors have gone in and are being sold liquor!!!! GOOD GOING MINISTRY OFFICIALS!!!
And all you have to do is go one of these weekends and look at the young kids in the club and drinking and some ARE UNDERAGE!!!

Why dont they name Kolbe foundation as the UDP Foundation since thats where they all need to be. It is a disgrace to change the name of such an institution to some one who has in no way benefited to the school’s growth…typical UDPs, so insecure of their short reign that the minute they get into government they start changing the names of every building.
This act to change the name of OWTHS is in poor taste. Really it is a shame to do that. This man did nothing for education, and lost two elections after the people found out he is not worth it. I ask that this is reconsidered.
Elodio Aragon Tehcnical High School. It already sounds scary. Stupid UDP! What has “that man” done for our school? He did not even attend OWTHS!!!!

Of all the years I’ve been living in O.W, I’ve never heard or experienced such single-minded and selfish act on a educational institution (besides Muffles); that’s why I stand firm with the opposing group of people who thinks that changing the name if the school and giving it “elodio aragon” is bs! Dat bally musi neven support anything afa d school, teachers, students or curriculum! So why put his name on the !@#$%^ school! #lone mad@!@$$
