Burglars score big at Korea Electronics

A well known Belize City electronics store has significantly less stock tonight. News Five’s Marion Ali reports.

Since Korea Electronics moved to its permanent location late last year at the former Peyrefitte Brothers Warehouse at Cinderella Plaza thieves have targeted them twice. The most recent burglary occurred between Sunday night and Monday morning and the crooks made off with a handsome assortment of merchandise, worth over eighteen thousand dollars. Veronica Choe, the Store’s Assistant Manager, says the break-in was detected by an employee who reported to work on Monday, the day after they had brought a stock of electronic appliances from another branch.

“How did they get in and what did they steal?”

“They came through one of those side doors. Using a crowbar, I guess they were trying to pick into the door and they popped it open, got in. It was a bar door. It was a bar door and they came in and pretty much went with at least eighteen thousand dollars worth of goods including amplifiers each costing two thousand dollars, watches; costly watches, Sharp Watches, they took one of the guitars. They even went with some computer parts, wireless routers, modems, you name it, they went with it.”

Choe says she believes the thieves were familiar with the store’s interior and probably had come in to scout around posing as shoppers. She also said they went for the same type of items that were stolen in the first robbery in December.

Choe says the store will enhance its security features and their insurance company, Atlantic Insurance, will cover a percentage of the value of the stolen merchandise. Meanwhile, police so far have no suspects and continue to investigate.
