Prisoners who were injured in accident safe behind bars
On Friday afternoon a police van that was transporting prisoners to the Central Prison overturned around mile thirty-seven in Rhaburn Ridge. Prison warden, Delbert McLaughlin died shortly after while being rushed to the Northern Regional Hospital. Prisoners Crispin Moreno and Dean Davis, who both suffered spinal injuries, are still hospitalized at the KHMH. The remaining ten prisoners who suffered fractures and minor abrasions were treated and later released from the Northern Regional Hospital. Police Constable Ernesto Martinez, who was in the van at the time of the accident, also remains hospitalized at the KHMH. PC Kevin Claire has tonight been released. A News Five team was first on the scene and found the extensively damaged van which was transporting as many as twelve prisoners. All were injured and two of the prisoners were rescued by passersby. The van, which was being driven by PC Claire, suffered blow outs to both rear wheels and the driver’s side wheel. Claire lost control of the vehicle, which flipped several times and landed belly up on the roadside.
Very unfortunate but this accident should be investigated more thoroughly. Three tires blowing out at the same time sounds very implausible. I wish the survivors a speedy recovery.
If the van was being used from 4:00 a.m. going up and down due to the transport protest ,of course the tires are worn out and especially if they are not checked during the course of the day.
Safety checks should always be done especially on government vehicles this way tax payers money won’t be wasted buying unnessesary equipment. I am certain he was going at high speed and made a sudden stop for all three tires to be blown out. Hope you all recover well.
Now who will believe that 3 tires blew out at the same time on the same vehicle? I am sure it did not go that way but they were transporting criminals and there will be no real investigation. Three tires blowing out at the same time is like getting struck by lightning twice in one day!
Tires that blow out have a distinct look I hope the investigators know this. What were the condition of the tires: were they well beyond their useful life; like really worn out? If so who will be charged with neglegence?
For a vehicle to flip several times they were well over the speed limit and may I suggest that was the problem; coupled with inexperience maybe?
